AMD Radeon HD 7970M Graphics Driver Not Installing

Greetings everyone here at the Windows 7 Forums,

I have a Dell laptop system that has an AMD Radeon HD 7970M Graphics Card. I have recently completed a clean install of Windows 7 SP1 x64, and I need to reinstall all of my drivers. When I try to install my Radeon's drivers from the resource CD, it appears to install successfully until I reboot.

When I start up my computer again, a balloon flashes saying something along the lines of 'Installing device driver software'. After a few seconds, it says something like 'Device driver installation failed'. I don't remember the exact titles, but these should do. When I click on the balloon for more info, it shows a red X next to 'Device unplugged'.

What do I do? Does this mean that I cannot use my Radeon graphics card? I would really appreciate support and instructions on what this means and how I can fix it.

I would get the drivers from the dell site it could be outdated and they have a updated version available

Greetings everyone,

I tried updating the video drivers from Dell's' website, and then tried installing them as you suggested. CCC installs fine, and the system reboots and I log in. Another balloon flashes at the bottom right corner of the screen and the taskbar, saying something like 'Installing device driver software', and a few seconds later, it changes to something like 'Device driver software installation failed.

When I click on the balloon, a window appears, where it states that Windows Update successfully acquired the driver, but failed to apply it because the device was unplugged.

Does this mean that my card is unplugged within my system? Would I have to open the system to plug it in, or is this just a meaningless message? Thanks for the suggestions, but I would really like to use my AMD card in my computer.

Greetings everyone,

I'm trying another clean install of Windows today. Hopefully this will fix the problem. Otherwise, I'll have to open up the system to see what's wrong.

If that Laptop has dual graphics I would definitely get the driver from Dell. It seems a lot of the time the manufacturer modifies the device ID so only its driver will install properly. It's a custom driver designed for that dual graphics setup.
