AMD to Intel. Transferring files to new HDD

I have my old AMD HDD and I'd like to transfer the files (minus the AMD stuff) to a brand new HDD so I can boot with it without blue screening. How can I achieve this? I have already installed Windows 7 on the new HDD but if that's not the right thing to do I can format it again.

You would just connect the old hard drive to your new system. Windows should see it, install the drivers, then ask you to reboot. After that you simply copy and paste the files to your new hard drive.

If your new drive is booting fine, no need to reformat it.

After you get your files off the old drive, verify the files are good, then you can format the old drive and use it in the new system, if you want.

I said that I can't boot from the old hard drive without it blue screening because it's AMD. I'm now using Intel.

You don`t boot off the old drive. Nowhere did I say to boot off the old drive.

You should be able to boot into the new drive and copy user data only from the drive with the AMD files .

Oh. Read that as Windows should instal the drivers while using the old drive. But how can I transfer everything like Program Files and Users? I want to keep everything except the stuff that is keeping the old drive from booting.

I already tried copying over the Program Files folder but I'm not able to remove the Program Files folder at all. Even with administrator privileges.

AMD doesn`t make hard drives, but I`m sure we know what you mean.

You just mean it was on an AMD system, correct ?

You don`t copy over program files, you have to reinstall the programs on your new system. You have to have all the program installers to do that.

Is this your 1st time doing an install ?

Programs would need to be reinstalled . Programs aren't transferable . Only the files in C:\Users\{your user account}\Documents , Favorites , My Music , My Video folders like that .

What do you mean I can't transfer my programs? I have over 1tb of data that needs to be transfered. I can't just start over on a fresh install.

Programs inside the Programs Files folder can't be moved to a new hard drive . You would need to reinstall all of the software again.

You can not transfer installed programs from your old drive to your new drive . The software would have to be reinstalled.

What about my Users folder? Can I transfer that? And for some reason I can't even get it to load when my old HDD is connected as drive F. The green loading bar gets stuck at the end.

You could transfer the folders inside the Users\{ your account name\

Folders like My Documents , My Video , My Music , Favorites , Download .

You could change your boot Oder in the bios under boot

Transferring my user folder doesn't seem to be doing anything. I waited for the files to copy but after it did, no changes were made to the user folder.

We are not Bill Gates, we are not here to tell you why you can`t transfer your programs over. And you are starting over. You did a fresh install on a new system. You can get your data off the old hard drive, but as mentioned you have to reinstall your programs. We are here to help you, not for you to argue with us.

Why are you attempting this at 3 AM and without doing any research before you started this project ?
