AMD to Intel. Transferring files to new HDD

Yes you're right it is late. I started working on this at 9 AM and I've been searching for answers since then without any breaks.

To those more knowledgable on the subject: Wouldn't running Sysprep on the "old" hard drive with the old installation of Windows 7, and then booting off that drive within the new Intel system, stop the BSoDing and force Windows to reinstall the appropriate drivers?

This assumes of course that the old installation of Windows has a license permitting transfer, IE not an OEM license.

Hold down CTRL as you click on the folders you want on the old hard drive . Once the folders you want copied are highlighted press CTRL and C to copy .

On the new hard drive open to C:\Users\{your account name} click on Edit and choose Paste . If you get a window pop while your copying put a check in the box at the bottom " Do this the next # conflicts " and choose COPY and REPLACE

Just to make things clear.. I've been searching how to transfer everything (settings, desktop, preferences, program files, etc) to a new hard drive but that is impossible, correct?

Well after more than half a day, I accept defeat.. I am going to stay with a fresh install..

Did you transfer your files or not ?

If you are trying to get that old hard drive to boot on the intel board, forget about it. In your thread title you said you wanted to transfer your files, not use the old hard to boot with in your new Intel system.

If indeed that`s what you wanted to do, well then, that`s a whole other kettle of fish :sarc:. We have experts here that can possibly help you with that.

From your thread title it reads like you just want to get the files off, and that`s what we tried to help you with, don`t understand why you are having so much trouble doing that.

Other then upgrading from Vista what you are trying to do is the worst way to have an OS on a new build.

You could have spent the time working on your new install instead.

There is no set order, just go into the users folder of the old drive, find your user name, open it up and start copying whatever you want to save.

If that was your hard drive you should know exactly where everything is, yes ?

After you`re done copying, go back and check it again, then after that go back and check it again. LOL I sound like Dustin Hoffman in Outbreak !!

The reason it bluescreened is because AMD and Intel are mortal enemies !!!

But seriously, you just can`t swap a hard drive like that, if the 2 machines were identical then it more then likely would boot ok.

I was thinking about other things like drivers. Would I install all necessary drivers first?

The only driver you have to worry about right now is the video driver. Run windows update until there are no updates left, that will take you awhile, then after that`s all done, check device manager for any driver problems.

Get your video driver directly from the manufacturer`s website. But more then likely windows will take care of that too.
