Hi Margie and welcome.

It's my understanding that animations no longer appear when composing an email but will appear when they are received. You could check this out by sending an email to yourself.

After unsticking your caps lock key, you might check the options for sending mail and make sure it's set to send in html rather than text.

Thank you marsimar I have tried sending myself an email with my gif file inserted but the animation does not appear. I love doing my emails but I am really getting frustrated with Windows Live mail. I have sorted most things out this is the only thing I am still having problems with. 'Many thanks

Welcome MARGIE!

I also have difficulty with small print on some web pages. I use the FireFox Web Browser which allows me to make just the text larger and easier to read:

GIF animation is not a function of email in the least bit. Likely, a sizable portion of your email recipients miss either the animation or the GIF entirely depending on the software they use to read your message. If you want to show someone an animated GIF file, upload it to drop.io (Simple private real-time sharing and collaboration by drop.io) and link to it as well as inlining it. Inline HTML mail attachments are not universally supported and as such many of your recipients are probably missing the joke and think you're daft.

The link makes it seem more complicated than necessary if you're happy with the default size of the gif. In the new email (NOT photo email) just choose Insert/image/inline. It will initially show up with a green box around it which disappears as you add more text. But the gif isn't moving until you look at it in the Sent Items folder after sending. If you're doing a photo email the "inline" option is greyed out and there is no way to "insert" a gif by importing from Windows Explorer. However you can choose one of the built-in emoticons and it will still move in the draft copy before sending. ;)

Windows Live Mail

I, too, have a problem with putting animated gifs in an e-mail (with Windows Live). And I already have my e-mail configured to send in HTML ..... so that's not the problem!! I miss my old email with Windows XP. Windows 7 is great compared to Vista! But Windows Live Mail sucks.
