When using windows media player to play animated gifs. It will only play for 4 seconds. I can choose "repeat" but it is jumps every time it starts over and is not smooth.. Can I make it play more than 4 seconds? Say like 30 seconds, a minute etc... Thanks.

Re wmp gif

Well that is mostly about the way the gif was created to begin with. All my gifs are infinite loop. It is just that windows media player doesn't treat it like an infinite loop gif. It just plays for 4 seconds (several loops) and then starts over. Every time it does that, it jumps. (not smooth like xp). If I could just get it to play longer then it would work ok. Thanks. Jo

WMP isn't the best player for graphic files. Try irfanview, which is free and plays almost all graphics, video and sound formats. When you install it, it will ask you which formats you want associated with the program.

For playing animated .gifs try opening with Internet Explorer, that's what I normally use.

I also have W7 Pro on my System Two, and several W7 Hyper-V VMs. My other machines run Windows 10/11. Their specs are in my Ten Forums & Eleven Forum profiles.

re animated gif

Irfanview has a navigation/logo thing on the screen. That is what I was told. There has to be absolutely nothing on the screen but the gif. (possibly black bars if the aspect ratio is not the same as the computer screen aka letterbox etc) I did find that google photos will work, but only if you use firefox. Chrome will windowbox everything. Of course you have to be "online" I really need an "offline" solution. (xp worked)

In Irfanview, if you hit View>Full screen, the gif will appear alone surrounded by whatever color you choose for your canvas. It's a more advanced editing program than WMP, which is geared only to movies and videos. Gifs are programmed and constructed differently. You can choose whether to keep the proportions or change them, and assorted other settings in Full Screen Options.

You can also associate every file format of images, sound and video in Irfanview. You'll find them listed in Options>Properties>settings.

This must be a wonderful gif :-)
