Annoying errors while trying to delete or rename files/folders - Win 7

I have been getting the following error (several in a day) when I try to rename files and/or folders via 'explorer.exe' GUI

Now...this happens out of the blue so to speak and despite what the pop up widget says, the file or folder, in this case, was NOT opened in another process. In the above example, I was just trying to 'rename' the folder is all. I didn't even go into the folder at all.

The OS is Windows 7 64 Bit w/SP1 and 8GB DDR3.

The only things I can think of that might be causing the problem are the fact I have an 120GB OCZ Agility II SSD as my system drive with the following optimizations in place:

Could this be due to the fact I have 'drive contents indexing' disabled for my SSD as well as 'enable file date stamping' disabled?

I also have the following 'services' disabled:

• Virtual Disk
• Volume Shadow Copies
• Secondary Log-in
• Offline Files
• Indexing
• Searching

Im not 100% sure on this but the answer is in your 1st picture, though you might have uninstalled RM, in actual fact its still left a working service behind that is taking ownership of said folders (seems very common in 7)
Again the SSD tweeker is most likely to be another contributing factor since its sharware.... they are usually pack with unwanted nasties and in some cases take ownership of important files n folders to try force you to buy the full version
I be tempted to kill the services on both and remove the registry entries and then finish up with some manual cleaning of leftover files n folders

I also have the following 'services' disabled:

• Secondary Log-in
• Offline Files
• Indexing
• Searching

The first three services really shouldn't be disabled...set them to manual. Windows uses them for various things, not just System Restore or Previous Versions. I think the virtual disk service is also important for managing logical disks and just making sure the OS is up to speed on what's going on with storage devices. Secondary Login also can only be useful and there's no reason or benefit from disabling it.

I occasionally experience this issue of a folder and contents not deleting ,i get the same message.
how i get around it is to open the folder and select all the content and delete them ,
then i go out of the folder and it allows me to delete the folder with no error message.

Virtual Disk Manages the Windows Disk manager Service and shoud be on Auto start/running

Volume Shadow Copies Is need to make backups of your data in the event of a failure of the OS or hardware.


I don't recommend Registry Mechanic, if you have run it, it may have deleted some important reg entries. I use Ccleaner for this task, see my sig for link to it.
Also see Revo Uninstaller and see if you can remove Registry Mechanic.
Run this tool, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html#post14392 it may take 3 times followed by a reboot each time.

Boobah's suggestion should work in the interim.
