I am a bit worried about this hope someone could answer these question

PC 1 is connected through ethernet cable and PC 2 is connected through wireless.

So PC 1 is connected but PC 2 isn't so I turn off and on the router. When the router is on the message 'another computer on the network have the same IP address' appear on PC 1. I decided to turn off the wireless for PC 2 and turn off and on the router again. After that both are able to connected to the internet and the message did not appear for the day.

However, PC 2 have been recently infected would these infect PC 1 which is clean? file sharing have been turn off for both.

  1. Are both pcs clean now?
  2. Have you tried rebooting not only the router, but modem and pcs?
  3. You could still be infected by a dns exploit or some other interesting tidbit, or your router is not assigning ip address automatically. Can you do a ipconfig/all in command prompt on both pc's and upload the screenshot?
Ask for help if you are confused on any steps given.

Your awesome for reading this.
Can you also provide a screenshot of your DHCP lease table on your router. A common network attack is to starve the DHCP scope and hand out all the IP addresses. A rogue machine would then create their own DHCP scope to cause a man in the middle attack. Most likely not in this case however it might be a good idea to rule this out to begin with ;)

If that PC was recently infected then you really should check for malware, virus's etc using the link below.

Just to clear things up.

There are 2 PC.

PC 1 and PC 2.

PC 1 is clean but PC 2 is not.

The message 'another computer on the network have the same IP address' appeared only once.

Bigger concern at the moment is whether the clean PC 1 be affected by PC 2. Especially when PC 2 user visit alot of sites and a kid.

Any advise on how to protect others on the network will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ps: file sharing is not enabled

Would you like assistance cleaning up the second pc? We can tackle the malware and get it cleaned up. Then Shadowjk and I can assist with the networking issues.

I think it is important for us to handle the malware first.

Your awesome for reading this.
Thought it would good to ask about this two issue separately so as not to have conflict.

PC 2 is receiving help from another place, just to state what is the situation.

PC 2 have been scan with both malwarebyte and avast boot scan.

Malwarebyte quarantine 1 thing and avast spotted nothing. The only thing that state otherwise is that avast constantly pop up warning when Firefox is being use, other browser have no such warning.

It might be a residue or something that only affect Firefox?

Now more worried if other on the network is fine.

How to tell which IP is whose?

What do you mean? I will be able to tell the different IPconfig outputs since the hostname will be different. You could copy and paste the output into two separate notepad files and name and attach them accordingly :)
