WMP 12 is the only player I have used, mainly for music. In general terms I am satisfied with it. However I think is a good idea to have another one as good or better. I have researched other players but the info has been rather superficial. I would appreciate from you either a recommendation for an specific player or some internet site with detailed info about players.

VLC media player.

Have used it for a couple of years or so.
Works great, plays many videos.
And it's free.

Thanks, mopar 3, for your recommendation. I have read only good things about VLC but all insist on its video capabilities. My question:¿Does VLC offer the same or better audio features than WMP 12? This is important because I'm more inclined to music. Of course, I could also have one player for music and other for video. Regards.

Here's an article where the author tested various media players (unfortunately, video centric) and rated VLC as the worst of the bunch. Tested: VLC vs. Windows 10 video player. The winner may surprise you. | PCWorld I've always wondered why VLC was so popular, my assumption is because it comes with codecs for just about anything.

I personally like PotPlayer with WMP a close second. VLC is a distant third.

Ditto on that. Since switching to PotPlayer with MadVR plugin I would not even consider VLC.

Callender and strollin: Thanks for your opinions and references. I will download 2-4 players and see if meet my requirements. It is not a bad idea to have more than 2 players.

Maybe check this post for a setting file that you might like. (Copy original file so that you've got a backup)
