Another Windows Not Genuine thread Error 0x8004fe21

I don't get any error messages. When attempting to install MSE it looks like it is installing, but I can run it for hours and nothing happens. Same thing happens when I try to download the one 15kb security update for windows that my computer says is available, it stays at 0%, or if I check for updates. Nothing freezes, no error messages. Would trying to install these in safe mode with networking work?

That sounds like residuals from AV's getting in the way.
Have you EVER had any other AV's installed?
This is the only reasonable cleanup method I can find for AdAware's AV - How to Uninstall Ad Aware Free Internet Security: 7 steps

I would also suggest opening an Elevated Command Prompt window, and running the following command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

you'll get a request for reboot - do so, and try Windows Updates again.

I have finally completed all of these steps and am no longer having issues updating windows, nor am I receiving the non genuine windows error.

However, now my wireless connection is having issues after I did the above, and installed the latest updates.

I will have a connection for about 10-15 minutes, then I wont. Troubleshooting says the same thing over and over.

"The default gateway is not available - fixed"

I have noticed that if I try to download a program, or watch a video, that will automatically stop my internet connection even if I have "fixed" the gateway problem a second prior.



I greatly appreciate all the help on the non genuine windows issue. Any idea on this?

i also get this error code: 0x8004fe21 i have a hp pavilion dv6 i have had it for about half a year now and it began to show the little note in the right bottom corner iam running microsoft security essentials it started showing the note when i updated to window build 7601 then it began giving me note about i was running false windows but iam not i bought my pc from the store and it already had window 7 home premium and the pc was brand new so please help

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.
