Any way to auto switch power plans when plugging in to charger?

It is possible with AVG PC Tune up.
The software comes with PC optimization mode with standard,economy and turbo mode.

It automatically switches to economy mode when running on battery and is restored to normal mode when running on ac supply.It changes its mode automatically based on power supply.

It also consists of turbo mode which is efficient for gaming.

let me try to be clear:
when on battery, I want 'Balanced" plan with all my custom settings [already done]
when I plug into AC Adapter I want windows 7 to automatically switch to "High Performance" plan [which I have setup, but I have to manually change over from Balanced to High Performance]

my understanding is that high performance features such as the use of overclock/turbo settings are not available in "balanced" or the "power saving" defaults. but I could be wrong... wouldn't be the first time

I didn't know we dealt with belief systems here... Oh! yes we do... just take a look at the "best anti-virus" thread!! :sarc:

A workaround

I'll just throw this in. It's not a perfect solution but it's possible to change power plans just by running any process that you care to define.

This screenshot shows the Power Plan changing when EmEditor is run then being restored to the original Power Plan when the process stops.

I can't figure out if any additional process runs when a charger is plugged in - or at least I couldn't track one down on my machine.

It is okay to be wrong, which you are. Turbo boost and overclocking are not affected by which plan you have enabled. It is just how they are configured with their default settings.

For example you can configure the high performance mode to be super power saving if you wanted. The actual plans are just setting profiles to quickly change as the need arised.
