Anyone regret moving to Windows 7?

Well how else do you expect? Lots of us here know precisely how well Windows 7 works. To me, it is perfection. I really don't care that Microsoft makes it. It could be aliens for all I care.

And then we help as best we can for people with problems, because we know that in most cases, it is user that is doing something wrong and not OS.

And then we are faced with, "I'm running to Apple." And we are left with a dilemma of trying to decide if we should let you guide yourself in error or give a last ditch effort to help.

Of my 18 years on earth, that's one of the best pieces of advice i have ever heard, well said torrentg, couldn't have said it better myself.

Yes! lol Believe it or not, there are times things don't work for me either. If I said to myself something like, "Damn this Windows...etc...etc", it would never be alleviated.

I know better though that I am probably doing something wrong. I then Google for the issue and learn. Then I don't have any problem any longer.

Moral of the story is that even advanced users make mistakes and have to learn still. Not a hardware or OS fault.

I used Vista Home Premium 64 bit because that's what was pre-installed on my laptop. Because it was already at SP1 I found it to be fairly usable with only a couple of minor quirks. Those quirks were ironed out by SP2 and I was pretty happy with Vista from that point on. I am running Win 7 Pro now and really like it. I have about 30 less processes running and overall the laptop seems snappier. There will be a learning curve, but there always is when switching operating systems. I've had no software or driver issues, although I know some people have. Overall I'm satisfied with 7 and have no regrets about switching.

im getting more & more ppl contact me now saying how much they love ''Windows 7'', & even more ringing me up wondering if its worth the upgrade from ''vista'', to which i reply.....''YES'', especially for standard H/W.... enthusiasts rigs handle vista perfectly well but ''Windows 7'' delivers that performance all the way down the H/W scale.

OK, since you guys obviously have much more expertise in these matters than I do, and a lot of what you say makes sense, you have convinced me to give Windows 7 a go.

Some have said I do not need to upgrade to Ultimate. I currently have Vista Ultimate 32-bit. When I run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it tells me my only upgrade choice is to Ultimate. Is that true?

If you're used to Ultimate why not ease the 'learning curve' and stay with Ultimate?

Before I used Windows Vista Home Premium x86.

I don't want to go back to Vista, long shutdown times, much disk activity, slow responsiveness.

In my case Windows 7 is perfect.

i love windows 7,i used XP,vista,98....but windows 7 is fastest windows ever....good looking too......good drivers support...thats all you need for regular windows user...i guess...

Having worked with several OS's in the past, I skipped ME in favor of 98SE, skipped Vista in favor of XP, personally think now that my not having any working knowledge of Vista is what is causeing me the hard times I am encurring with Win 7. Things are their but are buried and you have to did for them, a lot of my good graphics and Photo programs do not work in 7, Win 7 seems to be about being connected with people, have seen several places where they are wanting more info than I care to reveil, my old machine (XP) died just 5 or 6 days before the release of Win7, I could not find a computer on the shelves, most all laptops, but if I could have found a decient one with XP I would have gotten it or went the DIY route, but held out for this one, it's all just a new learning curve, but it's all good!!!

Going from XP32bit to windows 7 64bit lets just say wow! My PC runs so much faster and can now run my whole 5 gigs instead of saying I only have 3. Had no major problems expect my motherboard died but unsure if that's related.
It's so much cleaner, easier to use, looks smart compared to XP. I found it 100% easier to install comapred to XP [I am not the most PC knowing person] and found it easier to install.
Only issues I have had is that it finds it hard to connect to my router and can loose my net from time to time.
I have even bought a new monitor because my old one was not doing 7 any justice.

Mary, I don't blame you for preferring to save the cash on upgrading and in your case I agree with you Ultimate is overkill and not worth the extra cost. You are not required by the license or the upgrade validation process to upgrade to Win7 Ultimate.

I purchased the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade version (reduced cost, requires a previously installed version of Windows) and it validated and installed right over Windows 7 Ultimate Release candidate, a beta version that was actually free to receive over this past summer.

It is not apparent to me here: Do you know if you are currently running Windows Vista 32 bit or 64 bit? If you were to upgrade do you desire to move to 64 bit? Moving from 32 bit to 64 bit would require you to have to perform a clean install, or one that requires reinstalling your previously-installed applications.

I have 32-bit Vista. I have no problem sticking with 32-bit Windows 7.

There is always a learning curve with any new OS or software program.

5 gigs! You certainly aren't messing around.

I get by just fine on my laptop with 3.

I had spent quite a bit of time messing with the beta, so I knew it was going to be stable and I knew there would be some aggravations.

All in all I am still glad I took the chance to migrate to W7 on my primary work computer. There are only 2 things that are annoying:
1. Adobe Acrobat PDF converter does not work with Office in W7 64 bit.

2. My high dollar Logitech mouse is too glitchy to use in W7 64 bit.

Other than those two software makers dragging their behind on these updates, I would call W7 a pretty exceptional new release.

Can't help with the mouse issue but for the converter issue - if you have a need for producing PDF files from Word Etc, try one of the universal PDF print drivers such as CutePDF or similar

I own Desk PDF from Docudesk and it works for the job. It is no Acrobat, but it gets the job done for now.
