Anyone regret moving to Windows 7?

"I've used Windows since version 2.0 (not too many of you had used Windows 2.0, I bet)."

Actually I've used every OS since DOS (except for MAC OS's) and I find they have been getting better all the time. I now have Win 7 on two of my PC's . Linux on another and XP on my netbook. I updated one from Vista and the other from XP .. other than the fact I can't use my HP2200C Scanner anymore and some niggling problems with printer sharing to another Vista Laptop (my wife's) it is by far the best OS I have ever used. Opening applications is lightning fast and being able to do things like VPN in the OS easily is fantastic.
Go ahead and upgrade .. you won't go back

Cheers

Vista has given me many problems because UAC was so intrusive, many old applications that worked perfectly under XP gave incompatibility problems under Vista. Yes, I know, we have to upgrade all those old apps but that's not an easy matter if you are working in a company with hundreds of PCs. So we had to roll back our testing Vistas. Under 7 everything is smoother. Go move to 7 now, it's the best Microsoft OS ever.

I bought my first PC with Windows ME( memory eater) and it was garbage. Updated to XP and it was a breath of fresh air. Tried Vista and it was a nice change but had it issues. Windows 7 ROCKS!!!!!!

Windows 7 definitely loads and shuts down faster than Vista. I have dual boot on my laptop running both. Didn't want to commit myself to running just 7 until I found out if I liked it and if everything works. So far my cell phone does not have the updated software for my computer so I can not sync my music or data on it using 7. Hopefully once that software becomes available everything will work. I only hope it won't take them six months like it did with Vista to come up with the software. My bluetooth printer periodically goes offline and the only way to get it back online is to delete the printer and then add printer where it will reinstall the drivers. At least I was able to get win7 drivers for my printer.

I don't regret putting 7 on my laptop but not sure I will spring for the money to put 7 on my desktop. I have no problems with Vista other than the slowness at start and shutdown and actually isn't really all that slow.

Until your software for the phone is updated for Windows 7 you may be able to set your phone into "storage" mode where it works as a USB stick - in this mode you should be able to copy and edir files on the phone.

Also although the software is not compatible it could be that your Vista drivers may work with windows 7 - if this is the case then you should be able to sync your phone using one of the many music player/managers available - or even Windows media player

I'm startig to regret some of it.

I simply cannot understand why microsoft screwed up the windows explorer so badly.
if someone manages to migrate vista x64 explorer to win 7 x64, i'll be more or less happy to stick with it.

-Automatic horizontal scrolling in the left pane and the horizontal scrollbar.
-The size of any selected item and free disk space are not shown on the status bar.
-The Sort bar that appears for any view in Windows Vista only appears for Details view.
-Classic Start menu
- sorting "programs" in startmenu by drag&drop

just a few things that aren't as good.

only real improvement are the network capabilities or rather the networking speed.

I have to say, one of the first things that struck me as a massive improvement was explorer file navigation.

The only thing I prefer that is not the default setting is to display the full true file address. Dumbing the file address down just doesn't seem like smart computing to me. People should know what each file address is and the system by which they are stored. But, hey, that's me.

Two weeks ago I upgraded my main machine here from XP pro 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit home boy premium.

So far, so good. I'm happy with it. This machine can now see all 4 gigs of the RAM I had installed and works better than it did.
I avoided Vista like the plauge for a reason. I saw no reason to bother with it. Glad I waited and avoided it.

Things I do not like. As others have said. WTF did they do to Explorer?
Explorer in XP I could configure as I liked and did things the current Explorer can not do (Or I've yet to figure out how to make such happen).

I'm flailing about looking for decent alternatives but am cursing MS for screwing up Explorer.
Other than that all looks pretty good.

And used Windows 386 ...
My first computer was a 286, and I used a word processor called WordStar.

I got you beat! :) My first PC was an AT&T 6300--far slower than a 286. Green monochrome monitor (12"), very early version of DOS, 20MB hard drive which quickly got filled up. I had R:base on there as well as Supercalc and Wordperfect 4.3. I even managed to play a wire-frame version of Microsoft Flight simulator.

No mouse. 640kb of memory. $2,500.

My next PC was a 386, then a 486, (both clones). Then I bought a brand name--Compaq with Windows 98SE. Next up...HP Pavilon with an AMD chip, which is what I'm on at the moment, but I have newer PC's too, of course. Being a list freak I've kept track of computer related expenditures since 1985...so far I've spent over $49,000!! It's amazing how much a hobby can add up over time.

First printer was a Okidata 9-pin dot matrix which I wore out the head on.

Then I got a color capable dot matrix (Citizen) which was a pile of dog doo.

Then a behemoth--the ubiquitous LaserJet 4. additional memory for that sucker was $200, putting the total cost with tax for that printer at about $1,750. dang!

Then I went to HP injets. they are ok when the cartridges don't go bad right after I start using them--a recurring problem for me. HP replaced most of the bad ones, but not all. I use the OfficeJets now--I love having the scanner/fax/copier function in the same device w/ the printer.

My first was Texas Instruments TI-99 and then good old C64! Dot matrix printers lol.

I even played video games loaded from standard analog cassette tapes. And you could hear it loading almost like a modem sound.

I am more than sure it is not ;)
What you mean is the details pane. And a) that is a waste of screen space and b) only works up to 15selected files. Select 16 files and you have to press "show details" everytime just to see the overall filesize.

I can sort my programs in the Start Menu using drag and drop. I did that last night.
