Anything in AppData that needs to be backed up?

It's easier to save a Win7 backup image now and then just drag the named User Account to the backup drive every so often. You get a lot of bloat and some performance hit with having the scheduled backups.

However I'm assuming if she didn't want to mess with external she won't want to do that?

Yes, she is older and struggling with her computer tasks right now. Does not want anything else to deal with.

If you're there regularly you can drag her User folders or account and create a System image for her, to avoid having Backup running sometimes which to some is an annoyance.

Not sure how often I will be there. If I do end up going a lot, that would be a good solution. Thanks.

The advantages to online backups like Carbonite are offsite storage so if anything happes to your computer (fire/flood/hurricane/tornado) you can recover your data, and you can access it from anywhere.

I use a mix of backup methods.

Automatic to internal hard drive using Acronis True Image.
Copy critical files to my other compute using a program called MirrorFolder.
Carbonite for critical files only.

I've never lost a single byte of data.

Each Windows Live ID also gets you 15gb free storage in the cloud on Skydrive. I use this to access my full data set from around the world.

No worry here. If a disaster happens, the PC is unplugged, the CD's are grabbed and put in the backseat of my truck. I get my clothes, dogs and cats. I crank up the engine to the truck and yell, "Come on Honey, there's room for ya". :D
