Solved Anyway to install a Printer Without a Printer Cable

Ok well if it isn't wifi capable then it will have to be cable and I think I linked this before HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support if I did sorry and the driver for this machine is that one.

Now in this users manual it states that some models are wifi capable (page 114) so it is down to finding out for sure and I am guessing only HP support can answer for definite that one http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02051571 - page 114.

You know guys, I never even thought to check if the printer had wireless capability - I stupidly thought that all printers of recent vintage could be run wirelessly. We got this printer about a year and a half ago as a replacement from HP for another printer that had gone bad. That printer was still under warranty so they sent us this one. So ICIT2LOL, I guess I stand corrected. I really did think that I needed that USB cable to initially set up a wireless printer.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I did successfully install another printer - an old Officejet 3200 - on the original Lenovo tower with the original USB cable, demonstrating that both of those 2 components are functioning. And I was also stymied when trying to install the G510a-f to another computer. Somehow that USB-B port on the rear of the printer went bad (Windows 10?). I just don't think I've ever heard of that port malfunctioning. And if it does I guess you're SOL.

Yep well that is a distinct possibility - the printer port being dysfunctional, maybe the whole device?? Trouble is how does one test something like that??

You may have said already but does it work on another machine at all?

Wish I knew. Beyond swapping out USB cables and installing on another machine (see below), I got nothin'...

Yeah in my last post: And I was also stymied when trying to install the G510a-f to another computer.
On the other computer it got to the same point of wanting me to connect the USB cable, and once I did .... nothing - no indication that I'd plugged anything into it, and no enabling of the box labeled Next. I'm pretty sure it's just the port that's bad - the printer works fine as a copier, and it prints beautiful test pages.

Ok mate I am beginning to think you may be right if the above is correct that the printer may have a bad port or the device is going south.
I don't know about your budget but maybe it is time to star looking for a new printer as they are quite reasonable these days - the inks well another story

As I mentioned we have two mine is the HP Officejet Pro 8600 and Lynnes is the same but the 6700 model and both are around the $200 mark out here where you are I cannot say but they are good and wifi to boot. I would add to they are quite good on inks and very quiet.
