I am running Win7/Pro x64. My System Spec is in my Profile.

I do not have iTunes installed on my desktop. I do have an iPhone 5, a hand-me-down from my son.

Yesterday the phone needed to be charged. I attached it to a USB port. I was asked by the phone if I trusted my desktop. I said yes. I was told that there were no new images on the phone to import, a fact I already knew. I've encountered this dialog before. It seems to be part of the procrustean Apple way of computing.

What troubles me is that a process started about the time I plugged in the phone. At a rate of 5-10 files/sec the 'modified' date was changed on over 3,500 jpg files on my data drive. I've not analyzed the order in which they were processed but suspect that it was A-Z on the file names and also on folder names.

Could this behavior result from iTunes running its 'sync' process? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again?

If we have no Apple OS experts on this forum, does anyone know of an 'Apple forum' that is as respected as sevenforums is in the Windows world?

thanks

Hi,
I'm no expert,
I believe you would need to go to the iphone settings and scroll down to iTunes and apps store and see what settings are on.

That's normal, if i'm correct. I'm no apple expert or anything(i've tried a few projects out on my iPhone) but i think you don't need to worry.

After making this post I tried to analyze the difference between the before and after state of some of the files. Some of them remained the same size, others grew in size, some by only a few percent, while others increased in size by as much as 21%.

Here are the facts about one of these latter images. It is a jpg I created by scanning an old black-and-white print.

I use Irfanview. Irfanview presents no EXIF information for the archived copy. It does present EXIF information for the modified file. The Image Properties menu for the archived copy reports a disk size of 32,135 bytes and a File Date/Time of 3/15/00 17:36:58. The Image Properties menu for the modified file reports a disk size of 39,115 bytes and a File Date/Time of 9/29/15 09:29:55 (the time frame for the unrequested modification process. It also allows an EXIF menu to be opened. It reports DateTimeOriginal - 2000:03:15 17:36:58, so the EXIF information is not changed. The File Date/Time is assigned by Windows.

I find it hard to believe that nothing happened to the image when the disk size went from 32,135 bytes to 39,114 bytes. If you disagree, please explain why.

thanks
