  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)


    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)


    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again (download HERE)
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:


    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log
You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

Sorry I was on vacation!

But when I did create all the folders that I needed but when I tried to extract the files from the Pack zip it says "An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x800700C1: Manifests is not a valid Win#2 Application."

I tried again 4 times and it's saying the same error code. Do you think my files got even more corrupted since I've been gone? The laptop was still being used by other people...

What happens if you save Packs.zip to your Desktop, double click on it to open it in Windows Explorer, double click on the Packages folder, then try to copy those files?

For a long time I wasn't able to move the Pack zip to my desktop so I kept extracting it from the Downloads area. I finally did move it to the desktop and nothing is happening when I double click on it. For some reason, when a lot of things hit my desktop, it fails to open.

Thanks Tom, I did the restore option and it still failed to open.

I downloaded the 7-Zip and afterwards is the zip file supposed to automatically open or am I supposed to reprogram the 7-Zip somehow?

When I right click on the zip file, either in the downloads area or on my desktop, it doesn't give me any options. I've been using the Open button on top and then extracting it because that's the only way I can do it.

I tried to Open it instead with Internet Explorer and my computer started going haywire with the screen flashing black so I had to stop it immediately...

I'm so sorry, I'm trying really hard to follow your directions but my computer is really messed up. I'm sorry I'm being a major hassle
