Appropriate symbols for debugging 7137

Sorry i seem to be posting a few questions i hope its not too annoying and i hope it benefits others as well

im trying to sort a crash problem i have with debugging tools but i cant seem to find the right symbols

anyways the main point of this post is that microsoft has a link for symbol packages which can be found here

in that link is there an appropriate one to use for debugging 7137???
e.g. if i need the RC version then

Windows 7 RC retail symbols or Windows 7 RC checked symbols?

or if i need the beta version then

Windows 7 Beta retail symbols or Windows 7 Beta checked symbols?

p.s. i know this isnt the right area to ask, but if windows is torrented then how do i get past the 25 day activation thing, or am i ok to activate it?

Well, now you get into the arguement about using symbol files vs. using the Microsoft symbol server, not to mention the issues with using leaked builds vs. released builds, and further the issue of Windows Updates outpacing the uploading of new symbols to the symbol server.

First, while the article that you cite is well written, I (naturally) prefer the one that I've written here : Diagnosing Bsod's (originally posted 02Oct08) - Vox

The major difference is that I use a different string for the symbol files, so that (if you're connected to the internet) there's no need to download symbol files. That string is (from para E in my article):

[B]SRV*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols[/B][URL="http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols"][/URL]

You may still get missing symbol messages if the symbol server hasn't been updated - but you'd get those even if you downloaded the symbols.

I've found that, with Win7, it's easiest just to work around the missing symbols (if you're connected to the online symbol server).

If the symbols haven't been uploaded to the server (as will be the case with all the unofficial builds - and most of the changes to the official builds), then you're going to get errors.

There's no assurance that you'll have the correct symbols until Win7 is released - and then it'll be a matter of the symbols catching up to any released patches, etc.

There's still useful information in the memory dump files. I've been analyzing Win7 dump files since before the symbols came out - and although it's a bit harder, it's still possible to use them.

Zip the dump files up and post them here for us to have a look at.
