Solved Are registry keys the same between the 2 versions of Win 7 (32v64 bit)

Hi guys
I'm about to reinstall Win 7 tomorrow to upgrade it to the x64 version as I've 8 Mb of memory I want to more fully utilise etc.

I'm curious to know whether reg keys saved in the x32 bit version can be imported into the x64 bit version, or are the 2 likely to be completely different. There's things like Word's MRUs which are saved solely in the Registry apparently that I'd want to ensure I can import as I've dozens of settings that would otherwise take me ages to redo etc.

Also, any other major changes I'd need to be aware of before doing this? I know it's a clean install but that's what I want.

Simply explained "NO" not a good idea (it's not even recommended when using the same version of windows)

So I'll basically lose ALL the settings for any program that holds those in the current registry? No way round that e.g. no programs available to convert or do something to enable the option? Sorry - you can probably tell I'm desperate - want my cake & to eat it ALL too LOL!!

Just to come back to you on this - perhaps we were talking at cross purposes somewhere along the way, as I've installed Win 7 x64 today & been able to import pretty much ALL the settings I wanted for Itunes, Office 2010, Outlook etc, so am more than happy! I was even able to happily import the Word MRU registry keys with complete success.

Not saying that everyone might have the same experience as I appreciate it depends on setup, & settings etc.

Appreciate the feedback nonetheless - any reply is always much better than nothing. THANKS!
