Sorry I can't give any help. Don't use printers at all and haven't had anything like what you are describing. Would have to see the error message. I would be very cautious about using the Wise cleaner though. I've had troubles with it before and don't use it anymore. Just my opinion.

What do you use?

You're trying to install from the factory disk, correct? Theres a patch for certain versions of that software. Have you tried that?
I had to download from website. Original disk that was with the unit did not include OS Windows 7, 64 bit. I have downloaded the program several times, from different HP sites:Canada, US, Britain? When I bought the printer, it was put into storage, almost immediately. I just reactivated it, and replaced the ink cartridges. It had been working properly ... until all of the Windows 7 updates.

A 'Fatal Error' (MSI error) Displays on the Computer During HP Software Installation in Windows HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support

This is what I found on HP support. Have you been there yet?

As an aside, sfc /scannow wouldn't help n your situation since it detects/repairs system files not other things. I empty my temp files by hand like this : Click start button > type in disk cleanup > select the drive you want to clean. It gives YOU control of what you want to clean and what you want to leave.

Sorry I couldn't help more. They did mention drivers on the support page for win7 and 8 for installation problems but I don't think thats your problem. The installation error log would be more helpful. This is all I could find about not finding "specified file" : 'The system cannot find the file specified' Error Displays on the Computer during Installation in Windows Vista 64-bit HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support

its for a Vista machine , but anything for Vista usually works for 7 also, you might want to take a look.

Running sfc /scannow was the recommendation of Toshiba support. I now have basic driver support, but that's all.:(

Maybe they thought a system file had been corrupted. I have a decent amount of respect for their support having owned more than one Toshiba machine. Not so much their business practices but the support. I would try HP support myself if I were you. Or you could wait till someone more versed in printer problems comes on here. Again, sorry I couldn't help you more.

You say you tried a system restore and it didn't work? Strange...

I have tried HP support, but they do not list any support for a printer that was first put on the market six years ago. I have not had this printer that long, and as I stated earlier, I also had it in storage for a few years. System restore, attempted multiple times, proved to be a waste of time.

Thank you very much for attempting to assist me. I appreciate it. Take care!

Hopefully, someone will be able to assist me in correcting this problem!

Hi there. I found the attached article on the HP support site and printed it into a pdf file. Please read 'Solution Two' - highlighted on bottom of page 2.
Hope it helps.

The disk may be corrupt or outdated, so download and run the latest software for the printer from the HP website which is the modern way to handle this. In fact that's what your Downloads folder is for. Make sure you rightclick the .exe to Run as Admin.

I notice you were considering running Factory Recovery disks. This only reinstalls the factory bloatware and duplicate utilities which corrupt and throttle WIn7 from its native instantaneous state. Almost no tech enthusiast would keep such an install.

Consider getting the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. As it's a specialty of these forums we will be here to help you every step of the way.

At the minimum if you run with the bloated factory install I would Clean Up Factory Bloatware to regain some Win7 performance.

In addition as noted trying to solve problems caused by these lard-infested installs using optimizers like Wise cleaner will cause additional problems including the corruption you're seeing. Only use CCleaner and the tools provided in the tutorials to assure perfect install and performance, based on tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.
