Solved Asus desktop won't boot after PCU disconnected

Hey all I have a Asus computer that every time I disconnect power to the motherboard (ex. unplugging) it won't display anything the power button light up the fans will spin but no display until I shut it down take out the ram drives (2x 4gb ballistics sport) then it will boot up runs like a charm, but the next power outage...

Anyone who can offer any advice would help alot.

Oh and FYI if I just reboot it's fine just if power gets disconnected then I have problems

I believe so, this computer was donated to me but it's pretty new so I don't think the previous owners did anything to it

What about the Ballistix Sport, were they with the original computer? What if you remove the RAM sticks and Boot the computer, Power Off, then Boot computer again. Do you see BIOS screen, or anything else on screen?

this 'puter was upgraded to Win10 by someone else so I don't know if the ram was changed but I will try that as soon as possible which may not be until tommorrow

This may be nothing but I was always taught that if you see faults occurring after a removal from power first check would be the CMOS battery. A lot of devices these days if left plugged into the socket/supply will sit in a sleep state that still keeps the BIOS and Time Memory.

It could be that the BIOS is losing the spec for the RAM - switching on removing and replacing RAM could be resetting the RAM data in the BIOS, thus allowing the system to boot

I removed the ram stick and I got the beep code Long-Short-Short (did not display) and then I unplugged the computer for 15min tried to boot up. nothing it light up fan are spinning,but no display shut it down pulled out the ram again and I got the same boot code

No display, eh? Seems funny that adjusting the RAM alleviates the problem, yet the actual problem is no video. Thanks for trying out.

What sort of video adaptor does the computer have? Is it an integrated GPU, or is it a stand alone video card? Can you tell, what is the model name of the Asus computer, and I can look a few things up.

I do not immediately suspect the CMOS, because you stated that adjusting the RAM alleviates the problem. There again, it could be, as Barman58 says, the BIOS is loosing the RAM configuration data.

In your original post, you stated that you had two memory sticks. You could try and run the machine on one memory stick. If it falls over again, then swap that memory stick for the other one. In this way, you would diagnose if there is a fault with one or both RAM configurations.

You could also run MEMTEST86. This will test the memory for defects. But it only tests reads and writes, not behaviour during the Power On cycle. So this test might be missing what we are actually looking for.

So, the next suggestion would be to go into BIOS, and look at the RAM configuration. See for yourself if the configuration data is set to auto or if it has been overclocked at all.

Originally, the first time this happened I thought I was the built in GPU so I took the Graphics card out of another computer, that didn't work so I decided to google it google gave me a whole list of options one of them removing the RAM cleaning it and switching it to another port that fixed it so I am still using the standalone graphic card as the VGA port in the built in GPU does not work. I will send the model #no this afternoon

Okay so this is an Asus case but I think it was built by a local computer store PCS so there is no model #no

Replacing the CMOS battery fixed it, it appears to work fine now so thanks to Megahertz07, oscer1 and Barman58
