My new (subject) machine running Win7 'Starter' still only shows 1GB of RAM in the System interface after my install of a 2GB chip. Is this the result of a setting in Win7, or my BIOS? I've read of "Truncated Memory" in a book I have, but am unclear as to how I might check and adjust the setting. Am I on the right track...?

Hello. I don't see such a checkbox in Sys. Configuration applet on the netbook or my Win7 Home Premium desktop system. Can you detail a bit more? Thanks for your patience and help

OK, found it under Advanced Options under Boot tab. It was not checked and the value window read "0", and changed to 1024 when I did check it. I am not allowed to change that value.

daledrums,
I don't really understand how reflashing the bios solved the problem but glad to hear it. You will definitely benefit from the 2G as oppose to 1G. I have an Asus 1002HA on which I installed Win7 even before ASUS made some bios and driver updates. Since that time I've updated the bios and installed some of the ASUS releases for my model. Oh yes, am using Win7 Ultimate on the ASUS. Be sure to get hold of a Win 7 Recovery CD and put it onto a UFD so you are prepared for any disasters.

I have an Asus eePC as well and upgraded to 2GB RAM. While flashing the BIOS is an extreme method; all you really needed to do was to clear the CMOS memory (I think this is a button click option in the BIOS); restart and your system "sees" the new 2GB RAM

Loganman,
Flashing the bios was to update my bios. I has already expanded ram to 2 gigs before the flash and my system correctly recognized the 2gigs before the bios update which covered other matters.
