Hi all,

Having issues with a ASUS H81M-C motherboard which shows no signal detected on boot.

Equipment
ASUS H81M-C MOBO, CORSAIR XMS3 4GB RAM 1600MHZ, INTEL G3258 1150 CHIPSET, 120GB SSD, BE QUIET 300W PSU

notes
no error bleeps on boot
no signal detected on screen
cannot access bios
reset CMOS - no success
moved all parts over to gigabyte mobo and all works well.
removed RAM from board and booted but no error codes from this either??

Whats frustrating is that I returned the mobo to the buyer who tested and showed as working correctly.??

Im thinking it maybe a RAM issue?
Does anyone have more experience with the ASUS mobos? Are they funny on RAM types/spec (checked QVL and Corsair RAM that i have picked is not showing)

I knew i should have stayed with Gigabyte

any thoughts/comments welcomed

thanks for viewing :)

That is a small power supply, and I've never heard of that brand.
Your symptoms could be caused by a bad or underpowered power supply. Particularly since the motherboard tests OK. Can you borrow one (larger) to test with?

Yes, just because I never heard of it does not mean it's not good!

I like to track these problems down through process of elimination. So forgive me if I suggest something obvious. If it's not in your list of things you tried I think we have to eliminate it.

No signal indicates that there is no output from the video card or graphics chip. The simplest reason for this is a bad cable. So you should test that.

Your next step would be to check BIOS settings to be sure on-CPU graphics are enabled, or try a (different) video card.

absolutely fine by me.. :)

plugged in a graphics card which powered up (fan) but again no output to monitor.
switched cables using a VGA and then moved over to DVI-D
Cannot access the bios as no output.

i am certainly thinking that its a bad board the more time i spend on it... might take it back again with the components attached and ask them to take another look at it.

When the motherboard was tested by others, did they test it with your RAM or theirs?

Something is missing. Motherboard tests good. RAM & CPU test good. Power Supply ruled out. Video ruled out.
Doesn't leave much.

All the RAM for that board is speced with voltages at 1.65v for almost all 1600, and 1.5v for all 1333. You should check that your RAM fall in there. The CAS Latency should be in the 8-9-10 range.

Have you tried removing everything from the system except PS, MB. CPU, RAM and Video?

yes... bread boarded the mobo with minimum setup.

I've been on the ASUS website and think i might have an answer.

Will get my hands on an order chip tomorrow and see what happens.

If it was a BIOS issue, why would the motherboard work for the other guys, with their CPU and RAM, but not yours?
Did they use a 3rd Gen processor?

EDIT: Actually, you don't say what processor you are using.
Always best to list all specs, even if you don't think it has anything to do with the problem.

Also: in first post you say "I returned the mobo to the buyer who tested and showed as working correctly". Do you mean the seller? Did you actually see them test this?

I have the same MB (ASUS H81M-C). It was working alright for a few months, then it suddenly wont boot. The MB light was on, but it would not boot. After a a week of trouble shooting, all other parts works alright. I was about to give up - RMA. I tried pressing the power button connectors on the MB while pressing the power button. Wallah! the PC booted normally. The header pins must be loose, not soldered properly or what not. Will observe if it happens again.
