Asus Monitor Suddenly Went Dark, Won't Turn Back On?

I have 2 monitors that are 24'. One is an asus

I used it for a few years before one day... there was a short power outage and i notice everything turned off and then when everything turned back on, my monitor did not turn on. I brought my monitor to a few repair shops and they both said it no longer works. I also use windows 10... but i assume this isn't a big deal compared to windows 7 as this is a monitor issue.


I then got another monitor... it was a used one bought from a computer store.. reason because i needed 1920x1200 resolution and its impossible to find it here where im located.


Its a samsung syncmaster t240hd.



I only used one monitor connected to my dell xps 15 9550 via hdmi to hdmi cable. However not that long ago, i decided to take my old asus monitor and tried to connect it to the power... strangely enough it turned on. I was shocked at this because i basically had it in closet for over 1.5 years... i never threw it away. So then i connected it to laptop via hdmi to hdmi and it worked. I then bought a usb c to hdmi cable and connected my laptop to that asus monitor... while connecting same hdmi to hdmi from laptop to samsung monitor. Thus i was using 2 monitors and it was great.


The thing though is just recently when my laptop and monitors are turned on... both monitors suddenly turned off. I thought it was a light power outage but it wasn't as the fan still works etc. Then i notice only the samsung monitor turned on and not the asus. I then unconnected the usb-c to hdmi cable and plug it back in. However when i did this, nothing shows up on the asus. I unplugged everything from asus monitor and connect it back to laptop, nothing. I then decide to unplug my hdmi to hdmi cable from laptop to samsung and connect that to my asus monitor. Nothing shows up on my asus monitor... however, you do see like the wallpaper on my dell laptop screen... but nothing shows up on asus monitor.


1. Does this mean my asus monitor no longer works? This worried me because i basically kept it in the apartment for 1.5 years... i put it like in the top of some storage space i have in my apartment. It wasn't in a closet though. However, my apartment is pretty humid because where im located, its pretty hot. I do have fans on always and sometimes air conditioner. Is there a way to try to make this asus monitor work again? The big thing is i cannot get this monitor here where im located 1920x1200.


2. I heard this is very common with humidity right? Like if its too hot, then it could damage monitor? However, i have fan on and its not that bad. Both monitors just suddenly turned off and now the asus can't turn back on.


3. Every night when i turned off my computer since that asus monitor worked, i always powered off my samsung monitor. The asus one... i would just unplug the usb-c part from laptop from it and keep the hdmi part on the other end. I never powered it off. The thing was i wasn't sure where the power on/off was at the time but just recognized now its right under the monitor. But could this have caused this? There were few nights where i did not disconnect usb-c to hdmi cable and just let it like that... but had turned off my computer. Could that have caused some damage to it? Or was the damage already done about 1.5 years ago. Because what worried me was when the monitor started to work again... it would only work temporary. I heard lot of cases where monitors are like this due to the weather of where im located with other ppl with monitors. Thus that rarely happens in the us.


Is there any tips/advice you have for me? Thing is i really need both monitors to work and i cant get this resolution where im located. But is the both monitor thing turning off meant something? The thing is i dont think its the usb-c to hdmi cable because connecting hdmi to hdmi with that asus monitor didn't seem to work. But even if it doesn't, you should have that wallpaper on your laptop screen right? So im not sure what to do here because i can't get a monitor like this here.


The thing is when this happened, both my monitors went dark for a bit... until a few seconds and then only the samsung one turned on. Is there any way to test if the asus still works? If it doesn't work, wouldn't that mean connecting an hdmi to hdmi cable from laptop to monitor... mean my laptop would still have same icons on screen though? Because they do not.

Okay im curious about something. If i connected the usb c to hdmi to that monitor... then when i go to display settings and it shows all 3 monitors recognized... does that mean anything? Because if the monitor no longer works, does it even show a 3rd display like that or not? Or it always shows it because i connected the usb c to hdmi to that monitor.


Because im wondering if a monitor no longer works, then shouldn't it not even recognize it? Or not because anytime you connect whether usb c or hdmi cable to the monitor, it does show the display in the display settings even if it doesn't work.

It means display is recognized, not that it works. You could have back-light issue on flat screen or something else.

Did you check Device Manager > Monitors? Any :warn:s
Drivers OK?

Can you try them on a different computer?

Hi there. Device manager shows none of that.

generic pnp monitor 3 times. Thus one is my laptop, the other is my samsung and the other is the asus.


Also when i click on sound, im using the samsung monitor speakers. There is the laptop speaker and the asus monitor speaker does show up as an option.


So does this mean anything?


Well the thing is when i found out the asus monitor worked again, all it require was to connect it to the outlet with the powercord, that showed the asus logo etc. Thus then when i connect it to laptop, it worked. But now there is nothing that lights up. I connected it to a chromebook, nothing shows up. I dont think anything would show up because wouldnt it require something to show up on screen when you just connect the power cord to the outlet?

Connected the asus monitor to my chromebook. Message show that its extending the display. But nothing shows up on asus monitor. It does not power on etc.


Is there a way to reset that asus monitor or something like holding the power button for x seconds? I tried doing that but nothing showed up.

Does your power button, or similar light up when your monitor is plugged in?

My HP flat panel show information on the screen, even if it's not connected to my computer.

Sounds like your backlight went south. Below is troubleshooting page from your monitor user guide. Yes, no to them?

No, nothing lights up. Also the thing is this asus monitor is a bit different, the buttons to click on power, menu etc... they are actually right below the monitor on the bottom... not like right on it.

I clicked on that button... it doesn't power anything on. Yes power cord is properly connected. I even used the power cord with my samsung monitor to test it out in case it was power cord... but nothing shows up.

Does this sound like the backlight? If that is the case, can that be fixed or not? Also is it possible a fuse is broken?


Again, a few years ago when i was using this monitor, there was a short power outage and everything turned off, then everything turned back on except for this. I bought it to repair shop and they said they couldn't repair it. There is a language barrier as i dont speak language here but i think they said it was broken fuse?


So i left this monitor in my apartment for a very long time, like over 1.5 years... then decided to connect it to the outlet and it suddenly worked... But just recently while i was using it, both monitors powered off... but of course this asus didn't power back on.

Im not sure what a fuse panel is.


I tried pressing all the buttons that is on the monitor. None of them work does anything to the monitor whether i have it plugged in or not.

Don't need pics of monitor, I perused a few on the web. I didn't see any fuse panel, which would be a small removable door which permits access to a fuse. I don't believe your monitor has one. I also don't believe, based on your responses, that it's simply a backlight issue. Could be board shot or internal fuse. Do you have a local repair shop that could troubleshoot it for you?

FYI: I tried Googling your monitor with several different keywords with no usable results. ASUS troubleshooting section of their user guide is sparse at best.

hi there. There is like one repair shop that could do this but i went there over 2 years ago for the same issue with this monitor the first time it happened... this was due to power outage. They said it can't be repaired and gave it back to me. I then left it in my apartment throughout this time and then few weeks ago decided to connect it to outlet and it worked.


If its either of those reasons you mentioned, could they fix it or not? They told me no. Could it be because they dont have those parts here?

I assume the repair shop didn't expound on WHY they can't fix it. Maybe they don't know how or know how to determine the cause! I can't say without running some diagnostics on the monitor myself. It's akin to asking if an automotive repair shop can fix it. Depends on the level of expertise that shop has. They can usually order parts. While researching your issue, I did notice that very few parts are available for your monitor.

The fact that it doesn't appear to power on whatsoever, then worked after it wasn't used for a while leads me to believe there is some sort of circuit breaker action involved.

Hi there. If its some circuit breaker action involved, could that be fixed? If i could find a way to get that part and give them that part, could they try to fix it? Also is this a tough job though and complicated?


Obviously repairing a laptop where cost is close to how much it cost to buy new one is bad idea, but if its hard to find this laptop, i thought it might be good idea?

They told me a while back they couldn't fix it when it happened first time to asus monitor. I believe they said there was something damage inside like maybe a broken fuse? Language barrier we had but they said it can't be fixed.
