Solved Asus Vs. Gigabyte...help??

Here Are two motherboards I'm looking at now...

Asus P8P67
And
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7

Edit:The build will be a do any and everything, from gaming,surfnet,vbox,photo & video edit, to sit there and look pretty...lol
I'm just looking for "better" as in Specs,performance, owner input, upgradeable,ect....

Please let me know what you guys/gals think about them.
Which one is better for a new build??

No such thing as "better" per se.

What is the target application or application set? That will define the scope of "better".

I do like the dual RAID support on the Asus board (but my browser is not showing anything on the details tab at NewEgg for that board, so I have not done a thorough compare.

In my opinion, both of those boards are overpriced.

Right now many seem to recommend the Asus P67. But for either one it is probably early days. I would wait a few months until they fixed some of the early bugs.

Since it is a general purpose machine, go with the lower price (assuming there are no fatal flaws in the design/implementation).

Asus P8P67 there are reports of this board being very picky with RAM and the early BIOS it ships with.


A Newer BIOS addresses the issue, provided you can get the board to POST to begin with.

Oh well, these boxes are just money pits anyway. I rebuilt in November 09 and haven't stopped. Recently got a new case since that was the only thing I hadn't replaced. A new case allowed me to get the cooler the old case didn't allow. Get the case and cooler and I want to replace the fans...

And so it goes.

My wife's (asawa) Gateway 815GM PC was found next to a dumpster in a rain storm.

I grabbed it for parts but initial examination revealed several pounds of dust and lint. I assumed that it was trashed for shutting down within minutes of booting - I did not even test it.

Dried it off, cleaned it out, added a GB of RAM, a better cooler and an ATI HD3850.

I swapped the case with a PowerSpec $25 case. No external evidence that it's a name brand machine.

Runs Win7 just fine.

Thanks I've seen both of those post and still debating on which way to go?? I like the gigabyte spec wise but i keep hearing "go asus" not sure if the new asus bios is for the better but i do like the "BT to GO" on the asus board??

I have never OC'ed my before but I am thinking about trying in the near future(ish)
I know that both boards have the "one size fits all style OC" but I also know thats not the best way to go.

I'm still leaning more towards the Gigabyte tho....


As for everyone else I thank you all for posting your input as all of it helps.

I know that bugs come with new but I'm building this to keep for a long while and since I do not build much(yet) I would like my starting point with the newest CPU and boards as it will be around and supported as 1156 and 1366 are slowly phased out..

I think the biggest major difference with this new chipset is that the Gigabyte still uses standard bios & the ASUS no longer have Bios, but UEFI.

So in that sense, I suppose it comes down to how you feel about being an early adopter of the new technology.
Beyond that Id say pretty much comprable for the most part.

Generally speaking, you cant go wrong with Gigabyte or ASUS. Both are typically very good boards.
Having said that, I would go with whichever one offers the features you personally want/need.

Can't go wrong with either one IMO.

I'd personally go for the ASUS one (UEFI looks very cool), In fact, I actually got a P8P67 myself for my SB build.

I'll be keeping an eye on how well UEFI performs as it's adapted by other vendors, but that aside, I like the Gigabyte boards as they are solidly built.

I actually struggled with the same decision when I built my current system - Asus vs Intel vs Gigabyte. Ironically what swayed to towards the Gigabyte was a feature Asus didn't have at the time - USB 3.0 and SATA 6, neither of which I've yet to use.

Anyway UEFI looks interesting but it's a new tech that has a major impact on your system should it suffer growing pains. That's what I'm looking for - how well, and quickly will it mature.

Tell me about it I've been all over the place about a MB! I want to get a damn good board to start with cause I do not want to buy another for a while and with that comes "what am I going to need out of it in the future?"
Now I know I'm getting into more gaming on a PC lately and I do plan on getting a 2nd GPU later, I also know I want to learn to OC and will be trying that later too.

There will be several smaller parts added to this build as time goes on... SSD,GPU...ect So I want a board that is ready for all of that. I like to start with a damn good base under my feet. I also dont mind "new stuff" it's kinda fun to work out issues to me(sic i know)

With all that said besides those two MB's I've also been thinking about just jumping in with Asus top dog ... Asus Maximus IV Extreme... after witching a video about it!
