Atheros wired ethernet connection problem

Every time I connect my laptop with the Atheros wired ethernet adaptor at my work at my university (but it works home), I am forced to uninstall the driver from the device manager and then restarting windows 7 to get it to connect (it automatically installs the driver in this case). This happens every single time. I tried installing drivers from the laptop site and from the manufacturer but nothing works. I really have no clue what to do here to troubleshoot or fix the problem. I hope I can get some help or clues from someone. Please ask if you need some extra details. Thanks.

Perhaps work is using IPv6 and home IPv4. Are you using "homegroup" or workgroup at home?

I asked at work and was told there is no IPv6 and I tried to disable IPv6 but that did not help. I usually use wireless at home (but I tried wired a few times just to test). Maybe this will clarify things more: as I said, after uninstalling the drivers from the device manager and restarting, the wired connection at work works perfectly (windows auto-installs drivers), but simply restarting the computer again at work (after the connection is working) will cause the connection to stop working and will force me to uninstall the drivers again and restart.

I know this is a bit late but i have just had the same issue my self with at Toshi satellite using an Atheros Wierd NIC. I have two networks at work one for our internal use and a septate DMZ network for working on customers computers.

I noticed the the NIC worked correctly (DHCP and Ping) when connected to a SRW2048 (Primary) Network Switch but would fail (NO DHCP and intermittent Pings) when connected to a CABAC Smart 10/100 (DMZ)

I am only speculating here but there seems to be an issue when talking to some older managed switches.

The only solution i see is to either use an Expansion Network Card or get a WIFI bride Device so the wireless can be used to connect to the weired network.

Have you tried connecting wirelessly? If so does it connect with out any trouble? You may want to contact your works IT department and see if they can't sort out your connection problem. It sounds like you need to have both lan drivers installed. Usally all the generic lan drivers all most all ways work for home and office networks, this one might be specific.

In my case the wireless worked perfectly, and in the end I left my customer using the Wifi. However this is not practical for all situation, Aslo Limiting the network card to 10Mbit (if 1250k/sec is enough) can improve the stability if you were receiving massive packet lose(like i was when I Static the IP address due to no DHCP).

Another Note maybe these NIC don't like old school 10/100 managed switches. I no longer have the laptop to try, but maybe (As Stupid As It Sounds) put a new Gigabit switch between you and the wall socket.
