You could also cheat and look on other laptop manufacturers websites such as Dell/toshiba/acer etc for the correct driver.

You might have to use the vista driver version too - otherwise send an email off to ATi with your problem

Naw, Windows 7 cache's some files that need to be updated...the installer won't do this for you...

Clear out the Windows GAC (Global Assembly Cache). In Windows 7, you can

• Browse to: "C:\Windows\assembly"
• Sort by "Public Key Token",
• Delete everything with the Token "90ba9c70f846762e" (ATI's key).

You'll need Administrator privileges.

No reboot needed. Uninstall CCC and then reinstall it.

Finally, just run it...it will show up in the tray right away.

The GAC lets you share DLL's that are the same version number. If it's in the GAC, any installer will NOT install a new DLL - it'll use the one in the GAC.

When I reinstalled the CCC, it took longer to install then it had before. Presumably, this was due to the installer copying all the correct DLL's to my hard drive. And no ATI DLL's have made it back into my GAC.

Howdy folks, I am having this exact same problem, however my situation is a little different. This problem started for me while I was still using Vista 64 Ultimate, far before I even considered upgrading to windows 7. One day it was working fine, and another day I looked down to check the heat on my card, and the icon wasn't in the tray, and couldn't open it manually. To date I have tried every solution on the board, nothing has worked. To respond to the previous post, I don't even have that token in my GAC, nor anything labeled ATI. I am running an ATI Radeon Sapphire vapor-x 5870. It worked very well for a few months. The only things I can think that could have caused it was upgrading my .net frameworks, which is the only system change I really made for about 7 months. If anyone is still around and trying to figure this one out, I would be appreciative of any help.

I had the same issue mixed in with programs not updating and SP1 (windows 7) not installing. Radeon Mobility HD 5870 What i did...

Completely UNINSTALLED Video card and all related ati programs (had to use ccleaner to remove the ati catalyst install manager) Also make sure when you uninstall the card in device manager to check the box to delete driver files as well. Install WIndows 7 service pack 1 (bye removing catalyst control center aka CCC, it allowed me to install sp1) then reinstall the most up to date ATI catalyst package (11.6 in this case) run as administrator and it worked for me after messing with it for 2 plus days.

ati released a catalyst control centre that was windows 7 compatible, problem is now solved
