About a month ago I had this BSOD issue that was attributed to ATIKMag.sys (an ATI Graphics Driver). I thought I solved the problem as a few weeks of playing high spec games/ and being on the PC for hours wouldn't cause a BSOD.

But in the past 2 weeks it seems to have come back. The problem didn't appear as frequently as before, but it still appears regularly. Interestingly it often Blue Screens during youtube video playback

* I have latest drivers,

*I have latest Bios

*I have done Memtest- my memory sticks came out fine

*I only have the ATI drivers installed (not AMD's bloated Catalyst Control Software manager)

*I haven't added any new hardware in the last few weeks

*Can people give me any pointers. on BSOD screen it frequently references

dxgMMS1.SYS

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
8GB DDR3 Ram
700 Watt PSU
AMD Phenom II x4 'Black edition' 3.2Ghz
ATI Radeon 5670 1GB RAM

Any help would be appreciated

I can narrow it down to three possibilties.
.net framework
ati driver installation failure
directx problems.

This would actually be easier for me to troubleshoot if you DID have CCC as if it was failing to launch properly I recently developed a workaround to the ati problem that causes that.

Thanks for prompt reply. When i bluescreen in game it's strange because it literally just blips out. The screen scrambles for 1 second then the BSOD comes up. I have spent a long time installing and reinstalling the latest drivers and Direct X (including doing it cleanly: fulling uninstalling any trace of the previous ones before putting on the new one).

I wil get the CCC version and see what happens

OK I installed latest drivers with CCCand after installation I got 'Installations Complete (warnings occured during installation view log for details) accompanied by an amber question mark. Clicking on 'view log' reveals this

This issue is still happening for me,

I think its driver based. As MagusCreed said it may be to do with ATI Driver installation failure. This is interesting as when I update drivers I get the amber status box after the ATI installer runs, saying 'Installations Complete (warnings occured during installation view log for details)' . but looking at he view log it comes up with no errors.

Anyone got any ideas??? I get he impression something is stopping my drivers from being 100% installed...which means some core driver data is missing and causing Blue Screens

Thanks Magus but your solution couldn't have been an issue for me at those token numbers were not under the 'assembly' folder.

I really am at my wits end with this, if anyone can help here is my most recent BSOD folder. To see my system specs look at my original post.

In summary

I think it has something to do with drivers not 100% installing as whatever I seem to do, after installing with the ATI Catalyst installer, it reports that the drivers installed 'with errors' (accompanied by an amber question mark) however clicking on the report says there are no issues.

- I have the very latest drivers

- After coming back from a blue screen the Windows tells me is a BSOD ID:2057 and says the issue is to do with Product 768_1

- The Blue screens happen mainly when playing video or being in game, but sometimes happens whilst browsing online.

- Before the Blue Screens I tend to get a scrambled image like this for two second.

okay well artifacting like that could actually indicate there is a physical problem with the card. If I had to guess from looking at the pattern the memory (the graphic ram not the system ram) has overheated at some point in the past and it's slowly going out.

It could be, but strangely I've seen overheated Graphics cards before, they normally give you warning they're about to go, you see artifacting and rogue sprites slowly build up and the game performance slowly decline. With me it happens instantaneously without warning. I can be playing Skyrim everythings fine then boom (appears like it does in the photo for 2 seconds then BSOD)

Ah now we are on to something.
looks like your realtek audio driver is a vista version.
You should attempt to update it. It may very well be the cause of the halt.
Realtek
you can try that link, I'm only about 90% sure it's the right one though.

Hmmm welll it turns out the realtek drivers are both for Vista and Win7.....but i updated them anyway and BSODs still happen.

Nearly going to throw in the towel on this, BUT interestingly on my device manager is an unknown device with the yellow caution triangle beside it, that seems to give very little away. More intriguing is it says Code 28 the drivers for this device are not installed. Which sounds fishy.

Si I looked at the 'properties of the unknown device, then looked under the Details tab and saw

00000040
CONFIGFLAG_FAILEDINSTALL

Looked under 'Device Instance Path' and it says
ROOT\*ISATAP\0000

Anyone know what this is and if its likely to be the source of my problems????

No I haven't removed it yet, as I wondered if anyone here could identify it first before I tried that. That would enable me to identify what could be the cause of the problem.

Something very bizarre has happened, which I may need some clarification on. A few days ago I bought a friends 1920x1080 monitor (which i'm using now). My previous monitor was a paltry 1366x768. Since changing monitors I have spent about 3hrs on Skyrim, 2 hours on Shogun 2 and watched quite a lot of video.......and i've had no Blue Screens.

Could this be something to do with the monitor. With my 1366x768 monitor I was very aware that that resolution was considered quite old these days, and games were starting to drop off support for it. On top of that 1366x768 isn't really considered a true gaming set up. Could it be the more recent ATI Drivers didn't really support a 1366x768 configuration?

I'm not claiming 'fixed' yet but no Blue Screens in 2 and a half days is promising

I can't offer an explanation as to why that would have changed anything, but I would not look a gift horse in the mouth if I were you. Just post back if it persist.

Back again i'm afraid (note: now have an nvidia graphics card not ATI)

Hi wondered if anyone can help me i'm having an epic battle with a blue screen issuer with my computer. I will add all the info I possibly can below.

* There seems to be no warning as to when the Blue Screen will happen, i'd say it happens about 50% of the time during a computer session. It most often happens when playing a youtube video or a game, when a certain function is enabled. For example I played Shogun 2 for an hour completely fine but as soon as I pressed 'play battle'....Blue Screen.
The accompanying Blue Screen will sometimes 100% finish it's 'dumping physichal memory to disk' and sometimes freeze during this state, meaning i have to actually turn off the computer.

* Often the drop out to blue screen is accompanied by an ugly buzzing noise (sound related issue?)

* There is little danger of a blue screen happening passively when i'm just writing a text document or going through the desktop actively clicking something internet or in-game appears to cause it.

* Often immediately after a blue screen my computer will not actually boot up, sometimes i turn on the computer and i will hear the fan noise but not the 1 beep to confirm boot up has taken place, it remains in this state. If i unplug the power then come back 10 mins later it usually boots ok (naturally with windows saying it didn't shut down correctly and asking if i want to go into safe mode). Rarely

I do not know if this is anything to do with the fault or just a natural reaction to the constant BSOD and impromptu 'power offs' my computer is experiencing (which can't be healthy for it). I will post a dump here and also a screenshot of one of my Blue screens here (apologies its taken with a camera i don't know how to capture blue screen images, hope you can read it)

In answer to a few that will probably come up.

*Have run Memtest on my RAM many cycles through....it seems fine.

*Have run temperature tests on my Computer and components (GPU especially). These seem to be running in normal parameters.

*I have done a clean sweep on driver sweeper in terms of my NVidia Graphics drivers. I have then clean installed the latest Nvidia drivers but to no avail.
Something that has been suggested before is corrupt DirectX or MS Net. Framework. I am not sure how to fix these if that's the case

My Computer

OS
Win 7 64bit
I would use driver sweeper to wipe out everything that remains of the ati drivers
Also remove the nvidia driver the same way, then attempt reinstall.

This kind of thing is sadly pretty common when switching brands.

I'm hoping it's this conflict that is getting you. The crash dump you submitted was incomplete.
So I'm operating mostly on guess work atm.
Given this system has given us issues with graphics drivers in the past though....

Also do this again.
