ATI HD 5770 is Hell on Earth

I bought an ATI HD 5770 card after everyone here said I would love it and how its so great.
I had a cheaper hdmi msi card with didint even pass sound through hdmi so I though what the hell.

Little did I know.

Grey screens with horizontal and vertical lines showing up all of a sudden making me restart my pc just to get things back to normal.

When watching movies I get this crackling popping noise.

And nobody seems to be helping in my old topic (http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/57162-video-card-question.html)

So this is why I decided to start this new one, to see if anyone can help me.

Yes I have downloaded all the latest drivers, catalyst center,etc.... and nothing.
Same problem.

Funny thing is I don't even play games on my PC. So i'm not running it hard or anything!

Can't anyone please just help me out??

I think your problem has been solved.. they just released a driver to fix that very problem. :-)

http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/1810-latest-ati-catalyst-driver-windows-7-a.html

Quote:

" Alleviates some of the intermittent grey screen and vertical line corruptions that may randomly appear during normal usage when using an ATI™ Radeon HD 5800 series graphics card"

If you cannot get this to work with your
5770, contact ATI.. now that they know there is a problem and they have even made a fix for it.. they cannot deny a fix for your card too.

Only for the 5800 series so far. Doesn't work for 5700 series, which he has.

Just curious this whole, freezing and turning black issue... Do we know what the problem actually is? Is it AMD?

this is why its almost impossible to pin down a problem & work out a solution with ATI.....

results are far too inconsistent, even on matching H/W :(

Its a known problem , check this official amd game forum and is expected to be solved with the new hotfix (of 10.1) or with upcoming one. Btw the hotfix currently solves the prob for 58xx so its kinda obvious that it either may work for 57xx or the next one will

That's what I'm starting to believe, either that or different batches/manufacturers have faults or made a mistake, or maybe the motherboard has something to say about all this. Overall I don't know anything about whats going on with everyone elses.

Also my friend in crossfire, his are Asus.

But then once upon a time a girl I know in England orders a single Sapphire HD5870 and, same problems as described, artefact-ng and many other problems. =/ and her PC is a brand new Intel build.

Pretty mysterious.

well when you think about it, all ati does is develop the chip and distribute it to the sub-vendors and make drivers for it

now yet another problem

when my piece of crap 5770 decides to work for a little while and not give me a gray screen i use it a lot with my plasma tv extended to be able to watch movies
My old 50 dollar card use to fill my plasma screen completely, now with my SUPPOSEDLY better HD 5770 I cant get my plasma screen to fill up completely, I get 2 small black bars on the sides and top and bottom aswell
what should I do?

Those black bands are part of the aspect ratio of true 16:9, they are always there. Even in HD broadcasts from your cable or satellite provider they are there. If your old card filled up your plasma screen, then it converted it to 4:3 aspect ratio or a setting was change. As for your other issues with the card, definitely check airflow and that it's adequate and equalized, check for the latest driver or it's a defaulty card.

I dont care if its how its supposed to be.....how can I fill my screen????
