Solved ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series graphcard died, suggestions?

Hello people,

It was really sad indeed, yesterday my laptop gpu died on me. I took the laptop apart today and there was some transparent oderless oil like substance on the card, that almost seemed to come from one of the (GPU) memory-chips or the thermalpad on it.

I don't know were the stuff could have leaked out of (memory-chips don't contain fluids as far as i know).

I'd like to have some advice. Since my budget is really low, I cant afford a new laptop of the same specs. I have like 100 euro's to spend and there is a only a very low margin. Right know the only option seems replacing, though I do know this is a difficult task for laptops.

I do know:
1 My GPU is not soldered on the mobo but is removable
2 There is a lot of stuff in my way, but the laptop can be taken apart really easy. I can take the card out with ease.

I did find this guide:

But I had a look into it a few years back, and it seems to be really hard to know whether a replacement gpu would work on my mobo or not. I thought the 'standard' of these cards wasn't really standard and you had to make sure a card would fit or not? How would I know what card to order, if there are any? I'll have another look, but it doesn't seem like there is a helpful sticker anywhere on the board.

I could try heating the old one, since it is pretty dead anyway, but I have a feeling this will not work since there are chips on both sides and heating will certainly cause the ones on the bottom to fall off just as the higher ones are starting to sink into the circuit.

Any ideas on the subject?

If I understand all the websites correctly, I own a MXM (II) type graph card. If I'm going to replace it I'll need such a card I suppose.

Although you`re out of warranty I would still go directly to the manufacturer about a replacement part or possibly an upgrade.

The manufacturer is Asus, I'll try and call them today, but I have a feeling they will not be as talkative as Ihope they'll be.

I got an automated voice telling me to visit their website, which isn't much help to me.

Symptoms got way worse btw, just when I was inspecting the LCD, the screen went completely black. (There was only noise and an occacionally bsod before, as well as my 'display driver' crashing every once in a while) Not sure if caused by something I did, or by my GPU dying completely this time.

Whatever may be the case, I think is is not wise to spend much more on trying to fix the problem, besides, there were some other issues with the thing, such as problems with headphones and usb ports. The thing is dead, that's just how it is.

Thanks a lot for your time, I'm gonna try to lend some money from my parents or something. I'll figure something out.
