Hi all,

I have a question about my WEI score with my ATI Radeon 4350 HD 512MB video card.

My gaming score is 5.5 but my Aero experience is only 3.8
I have the latest ATI 9.3 driver installed also. Its really not a big deal but it peaked my curiosity on why the difference.

I didnt have Vista installed on this pc so I dont have a WEI reference.

Is this a normal WEI for this video card? I know it isnt considered a "high end gaming card" but I like it and so far it has worked great for me.

Seems rather low, my ATi Radeon x1400 Mobility has a 4.1 Aero Experience.

nope....something is not right there..??

your Aero experience should be at 7.9, or it should at least be above your gaming score..??, but i shouldn't worry too much about the WEI its still pretty sporadic at the moment.....

the results coming from it at the moment defy belief in most cases...lol :p

its a continual ''work in progress''....
thx for the input :-)

the video card has been working great and I was mainly curious because of the difference in scores. I am a firm believer in the mantra "if it aint broke dont fix it"

in fact the computer itself has been running like a champ :-) thx again

lmao i have the opposite mantra...
"if it aint broken, you arent looking hard enough...."
at least in computing anyways...
and yeah it should be way higher aero wei as i have it at 3.6 and this is an IGP....:sarc:
hmm might look at doing it again but by clearing all your wei scores...

most likely you are not using a wddm 1.1 driver as i have seen in the xml that if you do not use a wddm driver it automatically caps you at a 3ish score....
check that this isnt happening by opening a elevated command prompt and type
"winsat graphicsformal"
if it doesnt do the dx10 tests then you are not using a wddm 1.1 driver...

also to test against some IGP's
Mobile 965 scored a 4.9

maybe I am "looking to hard at my WEI?" lol

will try your suggestions. Isnt the new ATI 9.3 windows 7 driver WDDM1.1?

HP Elite m9600 with ATI Radon HD 4350

Bought the HP Elite m9600t Core i7-920 2.66GHz 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4350 and 6 GB of DDR3 at Costco 8 days before the Windows 7 upgrade was available with 22" HP monitor for $999.00

Using the Windows 7 RC, have been happy so far with the games. It is about 2 days old at this point. :geek:

The ATI Radon HD 4350 tested World In Conflict using the 64 bit Vista and then the Windows 7.
World In Conflict (WIC) has a "test" mode for evaluating graphics at different frame rates and resolutions (and details).

There was very little if any difference between it using the pre-installed Vista 64 bit and then afterwards using Windows 7.

The ATI Radon HD 4350 only had 512 M of memory (why HP picked 512 for an other wise fantastic computer, I don't know).

I have no idea if ATI HD 4350 will support a user RAM upgrade?
Would love to try the same game with 1 G or more of RAM in my same Radon HD 4350 just to see the difference.
Otherwise, I will probably buy a upgraded ATI card.

The articles on a web site Tom's Hardware
has the latest graphic card results for a computer with close to my configuration. I may have to spend about $175 to get a real ATI card that uses DDR3 or DDR5 from reading the new article.

I want the HDMI for creating video lesson plans for my simulators. We plan to use ATI on our simulators with upgrades soon.

Find the run diag. and type in "dxdiag". Click the third tab in the windows which opens. It will tell you the total amount of memory allocated to the graphics card. ATi cards are allocated a portion of system RAM. My HD 2400 with an x64 version of Windows 7, and 4 GB of RAM (DDR2) is allocated over 1900 MB in conjunction with its built in RAM (256).

Since you have 6 GB of DDR3 RAM, your graphics card may be allocated more than 1900 MB totally. Second, your system ram - DDR3 - is faster than DDR2, boosting performance.

Nevertheless, more VRAM (video RAM) will NOT help your card. Faster VRAM would help; but then you cannot upgrade how much VRAM you have; it is soldered onto your HD 4350. 1 GB of VRAM with that same card would be useless. Place emphasis on the speed of the VRAM over how much. DDR<DDR2<DDR3<DDR5

RAM is cheap. Manufactures often give video cards more RAM than necessary to attract buyers (1 GB vs. 512 MB!). Often times, the smaller capacity is comprised of faster VRAM chips.

Upgrading? Better make sure your power supply is adequate. The reason HP paired such a graphics card with an i7 is because the rig was not designed for gaming, rather for things like Photoshop (lots of fast ram and a i7)

Using a netbook currently for travel. Also own a Dell 755 and a T500 and a Toshiba P105.
Just FYI to anyone about this Video card: I still get 3.8 Windows Experience Index score with it. I am wondering how this affects Windows performance overall now. It uses the WEI score to adjust and tune settings as time goes on.

This is pretty disturbing, actually, to find out that WEI is a notorious bad judge of hardware. I have been reading it all over the place today. How can it regulate performance with no accurate ratings? And why wouldn't this be fixed after close to 2 years of testing the card on millions of PC's??? Typical Microsoft.

I must say that Win7 has been running like a dream for me though. Even with my 1Gb, 1.6ghz pc. I don't use Aero but when I did it worked fine with the 4350. Great for Home theater type stuff. I'm not a gamer though, and I maintain my pc meticulously. So I am not the typical user with a bogged down, slow operating system to wrestle with.
