Hello!

This is my first post and im abit of a noob on the forums but do have some basic computer understanding.

I resently installed 7 on my old acer aspire 3050(upgraded it to 2gb of ram), this old thing now runs like new and im really impressed with it!

i installed all the graphics card drivers and all was fine, untl looking through some settings(boredum =D) i found out my video memory was only 32mb!?

I know my graphics card is 128mb but its only being displayed as 32...

This is quite odd as i can run aero perfectly!

I emailed AMD and they said it was because my graphics card wasnt supported by 7 atall, but i can run aero and it is displaying as 32mb..

So what im asking of you is, Any of you know the reason for this? Can it be sorted?

At the moment i do lag on some games like css where my friends with the same amount of graphics memory do not... and i cant run some games because it says i only have 32mb of memory!

Any1 else having this problem or even know how to sort it?

Thanks for taking the time to read this...

GARRETT

Edit: Im running CCC 09.11

Hi Garrett,

According to Acer's website, your Aspire 3050 contains an
ATI Radeon® Xpress 1100 integrated 3D graphics, with up to 128 MB of shared system memory
Forgive me for asking, but - was there an option to upgrade the integrated graphics when you ordered/bought the laptop, that you may have missed at the time? I'm not sure what else "up to" could mean... Perhaps because it doesn't have dedicated memory and uses a variable amount of system RAM, you were seeing it in a low-usage state? Does that number, 32MB, change at all depending on the intensity of your computer use?

Cheers,

Walker

AMD has updated their legacy drivers from 9.12 to 10.2 now.

See the IGP drivers at the following link:

AMD Support Search

Click on the Release Date column to sort the drivers descending by date. That will bring the 10.2 driver links to the top of the page.

I installed this and there is no diffrience!

You could uninstall them and try reinstalling using different compatibility modes -- although I doubt that will make any difference.

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest. These are pretty old chips and nobody's writing new drivers for them anymore.

Your x1100 has always had 32Mb onboard dedicated memory . The motherboard BIOS was set to let the video card use system memory up to 128MB. ie 32MB on card and take 96Mb from your system Ram. Now, Windows 7/Vista & DirectX works a bit differently. So you have still got the 32MB on the x1100 and Win7 has worked out that with the current amount of system ram installed (2Gb), it can set aside 751MB of system ram for chacheing textures. This memory will only be used if and when it is needed. So in efect, you have nothing to wory about. It is being used as intended. So under Vista/Win7, you now have more available memory for your graphics card.

That's normal too. Graphics cards will only use onboard dedicated memory for video. So system memory will always be 0 for video.
