Hi, so the problem I'm having with ATI Tray Tools is it installs fine, but will not start, it will throw a "ATI Tray Tools Has Stopped Working" error. I have tried all of the unsigned drivers tricks (press f8 then select the unsigned driver option every boot, I used DSEO (Drive Signature Enforcement Overrider) to start in TESTMODE and signed the appropriate drivers, I tried ReadyDriverPlus0 and none work. In fact, the srvinst.exe works and reports that the low level drivers are operational. So I've narrowed it down to the atitools executable itself, which I've tried running in admin mode, in compatibility mode for Vista SP1 and SP2, Windows XP SP2 and SP3.

Windows Defender is disabled and so is UAC. It's really frustrating because there are so many nice tweaks in tray tools, and everyone else seemed to get it to work using the unsigned driver method. I don't have any form of anti virus or ant-spyware installed, so I can't see what the problem is.

(just another thing to mention, compatibility troubleshooting never works on my rig, odd, because some of the programs I use should start fine in XP mode (no that I want them too, but its odd that they don't), but they dont. It's almost like Compatibility wizard does nothing. Whenever I try to use it, it doesn't even through an error, it just does nothing, the program won't show any sign of starting or an error.)

By the way, I am running the latest beta of tray tools, which supports windows vistax86/x64 and most people seemed to get it working.

You're not alone. I'm also waiting an update but if history is any indication, it may not come any time soon.

sorry, can't help...

...all i can say is that version 1.6.9.140 works great on my x64 rtm, and so has every other version i've tried.

i didn't have to do any fancy install tricks, nor compat modes, although i do have uac permanently disabled.

Same, I hate UAC. I got my copy from a torrent (the horror! downloading a free beta from a torrent!), even though it came from a widely respected user, their may be something wrong at a small level that is making compatibility problems, as I've had a lot of apps stop working, even some that aren't low level apps. Now that I think of it, it got to be that, as a major point of windows 7 is it shouldn't experience compatibility problems like vista did. Not to mention the fact that vista didn't have problems with high-level apps from xp (i.e apps that do not require interactions with drivers, or specific kernel requirements).
