atikmdag.sys BSOD on Windows 7 x64

Hi...

Recently I bought my PC and installed Windows 7 x64. I'm not a techie, but know little bit about hardware (only basics), and this error has dumbfounded me.

I have been playing Crysis 2 with no error. But, today I played The Sims Medieval and encountered BSOD with atikmdag.sys error after playing for about 10 minutes.

The problem are always recurring around in the same minutes, but only in Sims Medieval.

My general hardware specs are:
i5 2500k 3.3GHz (no OC)
XFX HD 6950 1GB 256bit
2x4GB DDR3 Corsair

and the OS is Windows 7 x64 OEM

I've included attachments of the NT6_BSOD folder and Healty Report.html as per requested by the forum....any help would be much appreciated...sorry for my English as it wasn't my native language and hope it was clear enough...

Three problems

1- One crash was Related to BtHidBus.sys Bluetooth HID BUS Driver from IVT Corporation. I would re0install it with the newesst version available.


2-Your video driver caused one. Please re-install using this

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Or if the above doesnt work for you. Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.


3-Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp,sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads

when you're done you can use this Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) in its place. MagicISO - Convert BIN to ISO, Create, Edit, Burn, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter/extractor/editor

SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive

As a matter of fact the requirements for TSM are higher than for Crysis 2...at least in terms of graphic and CPU (which is ridiculous in my eyes...but hey...EA need I say more

Start the game with TSM.exe in "\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\Game\Bin\TSM.exe" (The Launcher is evil

Patch it up to v1.2.3 (the 1.3.x patch is still buggy)
Patches | Simprograms

If the game itself crashes, delete the following caches (all in \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval
CASPartCache.package
compositorCache.package
simCompositorCache.package

Ah I see, never knew that TSM requires more spec power than C2

Turned out I can report back today...
have followed all zigzag's advice, and reinstalled the ATI driver from the box instead the newest one from the site...and turning of "Smooth Edge" in TSM option...

the game was able to run more than it used to, around 15 minutes (havent tried longer because I was too happy it didnt BSOD as soon as it used to, and rushed back to report here)

Fortunately ive patched the TSM to patch 1.2.3 and thank you SledgeDG for the future-solution for the crashes, will definitely look into it if it happens...(hoping that it wont though...)

You're very welcome and happy simming in the dark ages (unfortunately I got bored with the game fast but my lady is a sim addict (Sim 2 with all extensions, Sims 3 with 3 or so extensions, Castaway and now TSM) so to keep the house at peace I have to stay on top of those crashes and all the weird kinks, EA programmers incorporate in their Sim products

After doing all the steps recommended by zigzag:
1. Uninstalling all my ATI-related drivers using Drive Sweeper
2. Uninstalling my bluetooth soleil
3. Installing fresh driver from the driver provided in the box of the VGA
4. Turning of the "Smooth Edge" in The Sims Medieval display option

the results are really satisfying, been playing for more than 3 hours without any BSOD like it used to (usually around 10 minutes of playing will result in atikmdag.sys BSOD)
