Audio and Video not in sync

I removed a program from my ThinkPad T60, and now when I play a Video, the Audio part is OK, but the Video part comes and goes, and its not in sync with the Audio.
I would suspect that I need to reinstall some S/W, but I'm an ignorant user and don't know what S/W could be causing this problem. Would anybody have any ideas on where I should start looking.

1) What was the name of the program that you removed from your computer, before the video buffering started up?


2) Have you tried playing same video in both Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player, what difference if any do they make?


3) Try changing the monitor resolution, and see if playback improves.

1) The name of the S/W was Reimage.


2) The Windows Media Center does not work! The Windows Media Player works.
So the problem seems to be with the S/W that is used to play the Videos that are sent over the Internet.
I just checked Real Player and it is slow, slow, slow, to start up and to shut down. It does not play any Video clips.

Have you tried VLC?
VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. I have used it for donkies years. You can throw pretty much anything at it and it will play. Worth a try maybe!

I would also agree with paul and suggest VLC, it should do anything you want, and it can even be "Skinned" to look like Media Player and other software.

I've quickly checked and the only reference to Reimage with relation to Thinkpads is IBM software to restore the system to the original status when built at the factory, this can be reloaded if you ever need it, Normally only if you wish to reset the laptop to sell it

I have been using some of the VLC drivers for quite some time with out any problem.
And I think I downloaded the VLC media player awhile back, but I never really tried it out because my Win 7 is 64 bit.
Is there anything I need to know about installing this S/W?

I have been a longtime user of Real Player, but since it has been castrated, I have been looking for another piece of S/W
to take its place.

I have never gotten into the habit of using the Windows Media Center or the Windows Media Player, because of RP.
Would I get into any trouble by removing them from my ThinkPad?

I think I downloaded the VLC media player a while back, but I never really tried it out because my Win 7 is 64 bit.

VLC runs on Windows x64 without any problems (well it does on mine!).

You cannot remove Media Center or Media Player in the same way that you remove a normal program, because they are part of the operating system.


However you can turn these features "off" by Windows Features - Turn On or Off. Both items can be found under the "Media Features" subfolder.

Surprise!
It shows a folder for VLC Player on my Desktop, and the version is vlc-3.0.1-win64.exe.


However, Windows 7 protest at loading the vlc-4.0.0-dev S/W (ie vlc.exe).
It says that vlc.exe is not a valid Win 32 application!
I downloaded it but couldn't install it, probably because of this notice.
I have been using the VLC Windows 7 64 bit driver package for several years, now.
Is there some way to get Windows to allow this Program to be loaded and run?

I am sorry warp4dennis but you have lost me!
Are you trying to run VLC on a 64-bit Windows OS or a 32-bit Windows OS?
The screenshot that I gave you was to download the 64-bit VLC!

My Windows 7 is 64 bit. And when I went to the web page I chose the 64 bit version.
I suspect that Windows is trying to load the S/W in the x86 folder!

I have seen that error message many times over the history of Windows, generally it turns out to be a fault in the software due to a bad download.

It may be worthwhile trying to download again - I always go to the source for the single download

I have just noticed that the link I provided was an HTTP, whereas your first link is exactly the same other than it is an HTTPS link, and therefore covered by the SSL protocol which mine obviously wasn't. I will remember to check that next time there is a need to post a link for VLC. Thank you for that.

That said, I will probably use your second link as it covers all the OS's.

The HTTPS is the secure version of the standard HTTP protocol and these days I would carefully check any site that does not use HTTPS before use as it is much less secure

There are, in my opinion, several reasons to use VLC as your major Media Player

• It's open source the actual code may be examined closely so any tracking and such is in the open (and not there BTW)
• it's been in development for many years, (1997), so is stable (downloaded over two Billion Times)
• Is still actively being developed
• Works with internal Codecs so no extra packs to load
• Seems to play anything passed to it, both Audio and Video files
• Works on many platforms - use the same controls on you computer, & smartphone & iPhone
• Appearance may be changed to suit your preference and blend in with any theme you use
• will also allow you to stream video around your own lan or even the internet
• I'ts totally and completely free

Try using the "J" or "K" keys on your laptop. Just click once and the audio should either go forward or backtrack a few seconds.

I think the problem is that you're loading a development version of VLC Media Player. You should be downloading/installing v3.0.4. You can get it here-
