audio lag/chopping

i install a fresh copy of Windows Ultimate 32bit on my G31 asusboard,it all went fine.as the windows screen opens up i check all driver and install realtek HD audio manager and chipset driver,then i play a mp3 file on WMP it played well as it supposed but i noticed that sound hang realtime when any application in the backround or whenever i refreh window explorer,,amazingly everthing is working fyn,,& offcourse there also problem in video playback as it also hang/lags and due to this lagging audio is chopped.I disable my display adapter(which is nvidia 9400GT) and the screen flashes and on it played WMP just for purpose checking the audio it played smothly.

there is no problem in hardware because earlier i have been using XP3 and there is never been a problem of such kind.

Audio is always on a shared Interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device. Depending on what's happening, the audio can get "interrupted" by the higher priority device. Also, depending on what is running (including in the background) and how much memory you have available can be an issue. 2GB usually is OK (but 3 would be better) for 32 bit OS but again how much is available can be an issue.

One thing you can try, open the Device Manager then RIGHT click to highlight the entry for the RealTek and then LEFT click "Uninstall" (DO NOT uninstall drivers). Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. Sometimes this will put the sound on a different shared IRQ and help with "choppy" problems.

As you have an ASUS motherboard, if you are not using the ASUS supplied RealTek drivers, try them.

keeping in view the nature of the problem 2 gb of ram is sufficient and offcourse 3 gb ram or more give added advantage to user,,and i also have install several version of realtek hd manger including asus g31 audio driver from there site.I agree that depending on what is running in the background and how much ram is available can be a issue but if you see post where u mentioned that even hangs both audio and sound(depending on whether iam listening or watching a video) when i just refresh the desktop by pressing holding F5,,and this problem is gone when disable my nvidia 9400gt.
i dont get it right when u said that DONT UNINSTALL drivers i mean to say when i click on uninstall it will ask my permission and that after i will proceed?and restart..

When you uninstall a box will come up asking if you want to also uninstall the drivers. DO NOT uninstall the drivers.

I don't know which shared IRQ your sound is on, possibly it's on the same IRQ as the video since disabling the NVIDIA card fixes it. If it is on the same IRQ, Video is a high priority device so obviously it could interrupt the sound.
