Audio won't work with external speaker or headphones

I have this exact same problem! Did you find any solution?

So since I installed Ubuntu in dual boot with Windows 7, the sound is not working at all (while everything is fine under my Linux boot).

In the device manager I have the yellow triangle sign for the sound devices indicating they are not working. The troushooter can't solve it. Update does not solve the problem.
I tried installing Realtek, no luck, same problem.
I uninstalled/re-installed every sound drivers, still nothing.

I went to have a look in the BIOS, and the integrated audio was enabled.

(I am under Windows 7 Pro, my computer is a Dell Latitude E5570, Intel Core i7)

If anyone have a idea of what I could do....

Thanks!

Hello and welcome McMortigan now not wanting to sound pedantic mate but in general we like to have members post their own threads.

I know it is very tempting to ask when you see stuff related to a problem you have but it does tend to confuse and throw the original thread off track.

However a the other poster has not replied I am curious as to what OS that machine came with because it seems to be a recent model.

Now as always the Dell site is quite convoluted - at least out here as I would say update the audio drivers but cannot give you a link.

If you go with this then we shall know just what audio device you have in that machine
Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT as a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE (sometimes the usual one for Gigabyte boards)
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
Limits +/- (minimum - correct - maximum)
12v1 = 11.4 - 12 - 12.6v
12v2 = 11.4 - 12- 12.6v
5v = 4.75 – 5 - 5.25v
3.3v = 3.135 – 3 – 3.465v
-12v = -10.80 - -12 - -13.20v
+5VSB = 4.75 – 5 - 5.25v
The Power good signal voltage at pin 8 on the 24 pin plug (grey cable) should be the same as the 5v rail reading/s
See this for the rail voltage info
PSUs 101: A Detailed Look Into Power Supplies (Section 2.)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.

Use PART B: see my pic for an example

Edit: Now what AV are you running too please?

*sorry, was afraid of redundant post*

So I checked the volts of the PCU using HW INfo, it seems alright to me.

About audio device details:

Audio Adapter:Intel Skylake-U/Y PCH - High Definition Audio Controller [C1]
High Definition Audio Codec: RealTek

I tried to find some drivers, got one through Intel website. I tried to install it.
Got a message error saying that Microsoft Bus Driver should be loaded before installing driver.
I had never heard of it but from what I just read quickly it could be the origin of the problem no?

Hello Mac I see the mods have started a new thread or you and that will keep things tidy.

I have to apologise for the PSU stuff I had missed that the machine was a laptop and the readings for power supply is a little different than for desktops:o

Now the Bus Driver well it looks the way to go right now where we get it from I shall have to dig around a bit but I would have thought it was part of the OS install.

So could you just run these please
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

Thanks Icit2lol!

OK I ran sfc/scannow several times. It detected corrupted files but was unable to fix some of them.
Apparently the problem is a member file "basic.theme" (See details in attached file).

I did the Disk Check in both modes (automatic & scan for bad sections), it didn't detect any problem.

Ok mate now I am not much good with SFC stuff but I did see that referenc eto basic themes and a quick Google for it came up with it has to do with the basic themes of the windows that one uses - the colours of borders fonts etc etc

I cannot see that it has anything to do with audio problem though. Now just out of curiosity how did you find the driver for the headphones and more importantly the mobo audio device? I ask because the Dell site is such a convoluted place to try and find the drivers for anything really.
If you want to to find the exact device for the audio you can use the HW Info again and use PART B: to find the details of it see my pic of my laptop here.
