Hello new to the forums and i was hoping to get some help from you gurus with this program not being in focus when starting up.

I have a few computers here that all run this program that auto launches through the startup folder. this program is suppose to launch at full screen. However, on a couple of PCs this program launches as full screen but the start menu is given focus and not the program. while other PCs with the same setup, launch the program at full screen without giving focus to the start menu.

Just wondering if there is some option that's been selected on these machines that are giving focus to the start menu instead of the program.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Bob and welcome to Seven Forums.

Couple of questions if I may. What is the program? Are all the PCs the same make and model? Do they have exactly the same hardware? Are they running the same versions of Windows 7? Any additional info you can provide may offer a clue.

The program is a custom program we use on our production floor where the workstations do not have keyboards or mice. They are all Dells but models are slightly different and are all running windows 7 x64 pro and use a generic login script. They only thing that's changed recently is installing windows updates and updated java on all the machines.

This might be time consuming but I would start by comparing the Group Policy Editors of one of the machines that gives focus to the start menu and one that doesn't.

I'd also check to make sure that both machines have their services set the same.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2495-services-start-disable.html

If you find any differences you could change the settings on the machine that gives focus to the start menu to be the same as the machine that doesn't give focus to the start menu. But make sure you keep track of any changes made just in case you need to change the machine back to it's original configuration. No guarantees this will help but I think it's a reasonable stating point.

marsmimar has given some great suggestions. I have a few little thing to add. Did you remove the old Java when you installed the new Java?
Did a video card driver update come with the Windows Updates? Different computers may have different video cards or motherboards and their for install different drivers on some computers and not the others.
If you can't find the problem you could use a restore point before the updates and then add the updates one at a time and check your system.

Can it be that the problematic computers have "something" more at startup other than that program? If so, it may happen that the program runs, then another one runs and that gets the focus, stealing from the first. In that way, if my guesses are true, you may ensure that this program runs last always.
