Aux. Input On Logitech Z-200 Speakers: Trying To Understand ?

Hello,

Have just bought a pair of Logitech Z-200 desktop speakers for my new pc.

Other than I can’t imagine why they didn’t put some sort of grill or protection over
the speaker cones, am fairly satisfied.

But, am very confused over the Aux. input.

There is no switch to select either the normal input (thru the 3.5 mm jack to the pc),
or the Aux input. “Normally” you would expect there to be an input selector switch.
I don’t want to blow anything, so thought I would ask here first.

If I have another input to the Aux jack, e.g., a radio, or iPhone, what will happen if:

a. a. The pc at the moment has no audio program’s output.
So, I guess the speakers will used the radio to the Aux.jack as its source.
Correct ?

b. b. Let’s now say that the radio is on, and the speakers are using the Aux. jack.
But, for whatever reason, the pc now (also) outputs audio.
So, there are now 2 effective Active inputs. Which is used ?
What happens ?

What is the danger of one of them being “blown” ? Can’t be a safe situation, or can it ?

I really want to avoid plugging, and unplugging, the aux jack input.
But want a “safe” situation where nothing is going to be damaged.

Really don’t understand their system, layout, or how it is meant to work with the Aux. input..
Can’t imagine why no input selector switch.


Would be most appreciative of anyone who has played with these combinations

Hello, Robert11. I don't know if I can help you or not. I have Logitech Z200 speakers, but don't use them the way you apparently want to use them. The speakers are an output and output whatever sounds come from the PC. If you have another input, it would connect to an input jack on the rear of the computer and the output would come from the speakers. Perhaps, I don't understand what your question is because I don't use them as you want to. You may see if there is any info on Logitech's web site that may answer your questions.

If you connect a second source (say an mp3 player) to aux input, you will hear the mp3 music. If your pc makes a sound (say a movie is playing) while the mp3 is playing, you will hear both. This is normal and cannot damage your equipment.

I have a 2.1 pc sound system that has 3 inputs (I chose it for this very reason). I have 2pcs connected and if they are both making audio, I hear them together. The 3rd input I use when testing or repairing computers. In the unlikely event all 3 pcs were producing sound - I'd hear all 3 at once.

I like to have several inputs because it saves a lot of unplugging etc.
