Hi,

For years now I have been using these 3 software combination:
Avast AV, Spybot S&D and Zone Alarm Firewall. Also using Windows defender and Windows Firewall.

Recently with all Spybot S&D updates, the software is becoming too cumbersome...more like less features are available now then previously. I can no longer access the file shredder.

What software combinatin should I use with Avast and Zone Alarm for malware/spyware? Or are these two software enough?

Avast has that in its avast web rep.

Should I uninstall S&D and go only Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware?

I'm using AVAST! free, MBAM Pro (MalwareBytes Antimalware; caught it on sale and it has a lifetime license), SAS (Super AntiSpyware), Spybot (it still does everything I expect of it), and Secunia PSI.

PSI checks for software updates. AVAST! has a similar function but PSI covers all my programs while AVAST! covers only a few.

All play so well together, I'm able to run AVAST!, MBAM, SAS, and Spybot simultaneously on my desktop once a week (I have 32GB of RAM; running all four programs together uses a hair over 16GB). PSI runs automatically roughly once a week. I have to run them one at a time on my notebook since it has only 4GB RAM.

I tried using MSE last summer when I first got my notebook since so many people recommended it and was bitterly disappointed by it. Besides letting a couple Trojans through (which MBAM caught and removed), I found out that it wasn't automatically updating virus definitions and the manual update I did just before running a weekly scan was the only one it was doing. The only way to get more frequent automatic updates was to schedule an automatic daily quick scan. Since my note was rarely on at the same time of day everyday, that wasn't an option. I quickly reverted to AVAST! which can automatically update several times a day plus one can set the frequency it checks for updates.

Edit: Forgot to mention Zone Alarm's free firewall which is much easier to use than Win 7's for protection both ways.

For off-line scanning, I use Spybot, Spyware Blaster, and Malwarebytes.

In addition to any software software solutions, personally, I would also suggest doing it all behind an NAT router, and to use a Standard User Account for everyday web browsing.
