I remember how hard Norton was to get out of a system once installed and how much it bogged everything down. Like Runckle and Hackerman1, I am not willing to try it again.

I don't think NIS has that much problems anymore i mean NIS 2009 comes pre-installed on my PC everytime id reformat though i never really gave 2009 a chance maybe a few days max i must say it never slowed me down nor gave me any problems in those few days.

forgot how Ram it used but couldnt been much, it was a snap to remove it .. i might even try NIS 2010 ..it can't be that bad

Nice to see you all have such an open mind! I too was anti Symantec and swore I would never ever go back!
But this past weekend my son told me I should take a look at their latest offering and trusting his judgment and the fact that my ISP (Comcast) offered it as part of my service I decided to give it a try! Norton Security suite to my surprise was a lean clean program! It is well worth your time to put away your prejudice and take a good look at their latest and greatest.

I readily admit I am biased due to past, bitter experience. However, I do not care for security suites by any vendor. I prefer stand alone anti-virus, malware, and firewall programs.

A lot of us have had the same experience. Norton has been screwed since "Norton Anti-Virus 2004", no argument. I've personally removed all versions since then from 100's of machines, yet ignoring their new (from ground up version) version NIS2009/NIS2010 is a mistake.

I'm not a Norton fanboy, matter of fact I have no loyalty to any software manufacturer, only those that have a good product. In this case Norton/Symantec has done a great job!

hi !

CarlTR6: "Like Runckle and Hackerman1, I am not willing to try it again. "

no, you misunderstand, Runckle posted: "I refer you to my previous post! "

i then referred to my previous post: " i have some news for you, the latest version is NIS 2010.... "

meaning: you can´t judge NIS 2010 based on how OLDER versions were.
i have NO opinion regarding NIS 2010 as i have not tried it (yet).
i have a very good security-setup and don´t feel any real need to use NIS.
however i might try it later on, although i´m thinking about replacing Avira with Avast.
i also have a license for Kaspersky 2010...

I never upgraded to ME or 2000 for that reason. And there is a difference. An OS is essential and there are not a lot of options considering ease of use and compatibility, especially compatibility between work and home. A security suite is optional and unnecessary. Your analogy is not valid.

that is a good decription of YOUR last post...

"An OS is essential..."
what has that to do with it ?
the point here is that you can´t judge a program today by how it´s earlier versions were in the past.

jav´s comment about Windows 2000 & ME compared to W7 is a VERY good example.
