Avast! or Comodo?

What so special about MSE, i went on the website and I don't know what it features.

MSE ?

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/?mkt=en-us

look under support, Help and how to, there is some info there
also under How to videos.

MSE has very good detection without false detection (positives),
it has performed very well in all antivirus-tests since it was released a year ago.
it doesn´t slowdown your computer.
it also works well together with other antivirus-programs,
especially with Avast, since Avast was designed to be able to run together with MSE.

i´m running MSE v2-beta myself, together with Emsisoft Anti-Malware.

Guess I'll choose MSE.

One question: Do you turn off Windows Defender or do u leave it on. I never use Windows Defender.

MSE will disable defender when you install :)

MSE will disable the current Windows Defender because MSE includes Windows Defender plus an Anti-virus program.

OH YES !
MSE is an antivirusprogram.
Avast has some "extra" protection, like fx. a mail-scanner, that´s the reason some people use both MSE & Avast.

my main antivirus is Emsisoft Anti-Malware (EAM), but i´ve been testing MSE v2-beta together with EAM since it was released,
just to see how they work together.

for more info take a look at my signature....;)

Hacker-man 1 Thanks for the observation, the point I was trying to get across to the original poster was that Comodo f/wall & Avast AV work good together. A little off topic but just trying to give the poster a little FOOD for THOUGHT!

Imeem Comodo f/wall has a "game" mode option. Furthermore once it has adjusted itself to your habits you will very rarely hear from it. Hoping this helps.

I agree that the Comodo Firewall works well with the Avast AV. Comodo has a great Firewall and Proactive Defense+, but they just started developing the AV a couple of years ago and so a lot of people mix and match AV's with the Comodo Firewall.

Other than self inflicted wounds, this is about as safe as you can get.
MSE is pretty darned good for free.

Nothing you can install can prevent a user from being dumb...lol. There truly is no software to counteract user error...

For MSE+Avast I thought it's bad to have multiple antivirus system on one computer, especially running them at the same time

that is correct.
you should not use more than 1 antivirus-programs with realtime-protection.

but, there are a few exceptions to that "rule".....

Avast was designed to be able to run together with MSE.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware (EAM) works well together with most other antivirus-programs,
but you might have to change the settings for the file guard to "Scan on Execution".

no antivirus-program can detect everything, so if you have a good combination that really works,
then you have improved your security.

Oh, so a bit above the general DNS server. This is my DNS settings:

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 127.0.0.1
87.194.255.155

Their DNS servers block known sites that are known to inject malware/viruses...

Oh, I already have the hosts file from there. I modded it, adding my own block entries and then a bunch of positive entries too. I attached my positive entries in a txt~

However you can obtain the same results by using an up to date hosts file from MVPS.org

Another aspect to choosing DNS servers is speed the freeware GRC DNS Speed Benchmark Utility from the highly regarded Gibson Research Corporation will not only give you a graph of the fastest DNS available to you, but also provide an extremely detailed evaluation report on a multitude of security aspects regarding each of those DNS Servers...

As far as I know Avast and MSE each offer excellent protection in their own right is there a reason that you need both?

Did this happen even in Comodo Game Mode? There are some Comodo Forum Members who are avid gamers and they may be able to show how to prevent this from happening.
