How to Completely Uninstall Avast Antivirus​

   Information

This tutorial will guide you through removing Avast products completely from your machine, either so you may reinstall it or make sure everything is cleaned up to move to a new anti-virus.

This guide assumes you have no antivirus protection installed at the moment. If you do, disable it during this guide as it may interfere with this procedure.

   Warning

Always Uninstall Avast Anti-virus the proper way through Control Panel - Uninstall A Program when possible.

Then continue to this method. If the uninstaller fails for whatever reason, then attempt this method.

1.) First, download the avast removal tool here:

2.) Close all programs. Open the file you just downloaded.

3.) The utility opens, Choose yes to restart in safe mode like in the picture below.

4.) The system will restart and automatically launch safe mode. Once started in safe mode, the login prompt appears. Log into your account like normal, and you will be greeted with the below image. Click the 3 dots (the browse button indicated by step 1) and choose the folder avast is installed in.

   Tip

This is typically found in C:\program files, or C:\program files (x86). Make sure to check both program folders if you are unable to locate it. Cannot find the folder still? Skip choosing a folder and choose the uninstall button.

5.) Click uninstall as the picture shows above (step 2).

6.) The PC will then restart and reboot back into Windows. Log in with your account, and then move to step 7.

7.) Download and Run the avast cleanup tool from rejzor's website (Source Below), this will remove additional things that the avast uninstaller tool sometimes fails to get. Stuck drivers, leftover folders, reg keys etc.

8.) Close all programs once more. Open the file you downloaded, and extract it. Then double click avast! Cleanup Tool.exe

It will open and uac will prompt you. Choose continue or yes. It will then display this screen:

9.) Click Accept. Then you will see this:

10.) Read the agreement, then click agree. Wait until the black box goes away. Once it disappears, restart the PC.

11.) You are all done!

All done and too easy and I have to say the tutorial was so easy to follow. Actually it is a shame that there isn't something similar for a lot of them because I always check in the reg entries after uninstalling using "their removal tool/s" and find there is still stuff left behind in the reg entries - not that it is hard to delete but all the same not very professional their part.
Two I find are particularly bad are Norton (Symantec as you will know) and Avira and just lately with the latest Kaspersky (2015) as I use Kaspersky on all the machine bar this new lappy is the very devil to remove because that haven't yet got a proper uninstall tool together yet. Even the kav remover Revo and control panel don't shift it. I think the only way is to delete the reg entry but as it is going back on again shortly and when I get my little posting problem fixed.

I did the above but got stuck with a choice of Windows or Avast Uninstaller on the boot screen every time I started/restarted my pc.

Yep that's ok but I found the link had some funny ideas on how to set msconfig. Usually one sets the start up programs with the Startup tab opened. Personally I only set CCleaner in that tab I don't bother with the OS or the AV obviously the OS is running or you would not get to the msconfig LOL!! It is slightly different in 10 of course.

I would still check the registry though all the same.

It is my bible when installing an OS on my machines and also when I am fixing friends and family machines too.
Now if you go through it slowly you will find lots of tweaks and they are all really thoroughly done by the authour Brink a fellow who is in my mind brilliant and if you need to ask questions he is just the most obliging person around.
The other thing is that you may lose some of the "bling" such as transparency (you don't have to I find it unnecessary) and all the tweaks are reversible.
If you do get stuck just post back in that tutorial and you will get help. Another bonus using this tutorial is that it helps you find your way around your machine and Windows 7!
Just one tip I would say you start with is do this Registry - Backup and Restore - Windows 7 Help Forums do this and it will save you a lot of grief if you are ever doing things in the registry and even if you don't it is a good back up to have if your system ever gets corrupted.
