I'm trying to set up Win7 on a low end Pentium 3 based desktop. Avira says it's activated but the Action Center thinks otherwise. A reboot didn't help either. I'd like to believe that Avira's fully compatible with Win7?

Yes, Avira is fully compatible with Windows 7 and many members use it... Is it just the spyware module that your having problems with or is it the entire package... do you have the latest version installed???

I'm able to scan files and run scheduled updates but the Action Center is sitting there proclaiming that Avira is turned off.

The version installed on this PC is 9.0.0.446 which I believe is the latest production release. It was updated last night as seen in the screen shot.

Your screenshot shows Avira turned off, and the "Turn On" button highlighted. What happened when you clicked on it? Did it ignore it?

It should be if it's listed on the Microsoft compatibility web page. I guess this is probably a freak one off accident.

Doesn't do a thing.

I clicked on start product update and it says that my install is up to date.

Not sure what you were trying to link there.

Can you guys recommend any other AV solution that's easy on the memory (and processor). After all, this is a PC from the dino age and will be used by folks who're generally technology illiterate. I was thinking NOD 2.7 but I think that's incompatible with Win7, plus its engine is probably outdated. My favorites (Kaspersky and GData) have an enormous appetite for RAM/CPU and Norton still has all these weird clashes with the shutdown process.

Your best option is to switch to another AV.

Giving the latest build of Avast 5 (5.0.1.150) a whirl. If that doesn't work, I'll re-install Avira to see if I can get this straightened out.

This behavior is showing up for me in Windows 8, and a much newer version at that (yes I DO realize this is an old thread) which is just not very reassuring. I'm posting this to indicate it is a very old unresolved problem. I think I'll go back to Avast...
