Background slide show hangs up on one picture

I set a folder full of picture to run as a slideshow in the background of my screen. After several hours it reverts to one picture. Why?

if it is always the same picture it hangs on,perhaps the picture is corrupt somehow, maybe remove it from the folder and store it elsewhere .
the slideshow will then happily continue , hopefully.

If there's a single picture that triggers the issue, I'd load into any editor and do a do-nothing edit. Save the file and it will get rewritten fresh. Typically that makes a problem file start working.
