I have played around with the backup functionality; I know how to backup a system image. What I cannot figure out is how to backup individual files; when I configure the backup and drilling down into the folders, the individual files are not shown.

In XP, I backup my Outlook .pst every day (I work from home so this is important). I had a NTBACKUP job set that would backup only the .pst file every day...no problem to set up.

When trying to configure W7 backup I can drill down to C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook but the only thing that's shown in the Outlook checkbox window is "Accounts."

The .pst is not in Accounts, it's in the root of the Outlook folder.

How can I configure the backup utility to be more granular? Thanks for the help. :)

Thanks, Shawn. :) That does help. At least I can continue with my daily backups until they fix this new backup utility. Um...that's assuming they're going to fix it, I guess? Because IMO, it's broken; the user should be able to backup a single, 64-byte .dll file if he wants to. :geek:

You're welcome Michael.

I do not believe that they are going to though. It's pretty much nothing but bug fixes from this point on, and no more feature additions. :( In Vista you could only select file types to be backuped. In Windows 7, they let you select individual folders. Hopefully they will add it back by Windows 8. ;)

For Outlook might I suggest the Outlook Personal Folders backup tool You configure it for what (linked) PST files you want backed up and where to back them up to, you configure the frequency and then when you close Outlook it prompts you at that frequency to back up your files...

Thank you, mlevy; I will check that out too. I haven't had time to work on this problem...too busy at work.

Every night before going to bed I've just been copy/pasting the .pst to my NAS. I guess I set up a scheduled task on myself. :geek: I'll check out the backup tool.
