Backup Drive Filled

I have a backup drive of size 950GB and little free space that is pretty near full. My C-drive is about 60% free. I've had this PC for about 4 years. What's my best action to increase the size of the backup drive?

You can delete old backups if you not need them anymore.

How do I do that? I know there's a backup and restore.

You can't increase the size of your hard drive, it is what it is. You can always add another hard drive to give you more storage space or an external hard drive.

If you meant you want to free up some space on your existing hard drive you can look through all of your files and see what's not needed and delete them, or you can back up files if you do need them either to an external hard drive, USB sticks, DVDs etc and then delete them from your hard drive. Personally I would look at adding a second hard drive.

You could try compression, if not done yet, but nothing beats taking a very close look at your files and getting rid of junk, obsolete and duplicate files etc etc. For example if you did MS backups in the past, how many folders do you have inside "WindowsImageBackup" on external drive? Unless you're doing incremental backups only, more than 2 full backups become redundant for most people.

To me their is three answers.
1. Remove unwanted data from the existing backup drive.
2. Add another backup drive.
3. Do both 1 and 2.

Tell what method you use to backup. Is it Windows Backup, Macrium Reflect or some other.

I would appreciate a response to my "Manage Attachments" comment a few responses above. (I'll to see if will work shortly.... It didn't work again.)

I use MS Win 7 backup.

If you are having problems with Windows Backup and many on here have, now is the time to switch. Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download This is a good backup and I have never had a problem with it. A full backup is taken each time. When your disk is getting full, just delete the old ones and keep maybe the three most current. I have never had a restore fail. Give it a try.

There's only one browser for messages. I'd like to post some jpg files.

I finally figured why cannot attach jpg files. When one gets to the browse/download dialog, the dialog gets behind other open windows. I got distracted by some other windows, and didn't notice the dialog was hidden from view. They are attached to this reply.

One shown is the top dialog for B&R. Another is for space usage summary. Another for Backup periods. One can get a general sense for these and other related dialogs.

The key to using BU may be how one operates with the backups like in the period dialog. Thee ought to be a tutorial on some of this somewhere.

In any case, I would like to use these tools reduce the size of the backups.
