Backup files as it is (i.e. no ZIP or XML)

Hello folks,

I am in the process of making backups of my files (not system). I used to use Syncback free, but now they moved to version 6 and changed the GUI, I find it confusing to work with. I am not too sure if the older version has bugs that will give me headache eventually.

I looked at free options and thought Backup Maker as one of the good programs. I am running some trial using it. Not being an expert in this, I am not too sure if I am setting up the backup correctly, but I have set up in such a way that if there are any files changed, it should run a partial back up. I deleted 2 files and it did not change the previous full backup. Backup Maker's forums are down. In case, if anyone knows what mistake I am making, will be glad if you could point that to me. The screenshot below.

Plus, this program makes backups as a zip file. I could not find an option to stop zipping the files.

My only avoidance for ZIP or XML files, I have had pretty bad experience in the past with these file formats (may be because of my stupidity), so that if something is going to go wrong, I should be able to extract few files, if not all and 'copying as it is' does not require any special software and can be pulled out by a noob like me using Ubuntu.

I am open to other softwares as well, if anyone has a suggestion.

Many thanks in advance.

Autover

One of the most configurable file backup utilities that I've used is Autover. It takes some setting up and there are tons of options but once you get it set to your liking it will work.

AutoVer 2.1.1

Another that I've used in the past and can schedule backups of specified files/ folders or run backup on demand is Karen,s Replicator:

Requires Visual Basic Runtime 6.

I looked at Syncback and also found the GUI to be too confusing. I'm using FreeFileSync and find it works well for my needs. It certainly beats the holy hairy heck out of cloning.
