Solved Backup image question

I happened to look at my C drive and noticed that all of a sudden I only had 2gb of space.

I opened Treesize and saw that my User file was at 65gb, so I clicked "include in Library" and moved the User file to another hdd.

During this process, I accidentally stopped the xsfer.

When i realized this, I went back and tried to continue the process, but when I clicked "include i library',the only choice it gave was "create new library."

Long story short, when I rebooted, everything was messed up.

I backup using Trueimage and had a full image from 3 days ago and did a Recover operation, but when it finished, the problem remained.

I went to App data (where I had xsferred it) and brought it back to C drive and all is well now.

My question is : why didn't a backup image have all the necessary info since it was done before my problem started?

No idea how true image works. It should not have gone back to the mess on an image from 3 days ago. I use free Macrium and that would not do that.

Tips:

1. Reduce the size on your C drive by eliminating the hiberfile. The command is powercfg -h off

2. If you have 4GB of more RAM, reduce the pagefile to 2 GB

3. Move all the user data to a seperate partition and INCLUDE (right click) the folders into the appropriate libraries. There may be a few folders that were generated by the OS or by programs (especially in Documents). Don't move those, else the programs may get discombobulated.

Did it and saved .4gb.

All I intended to move was Users, but as I said, I accidentally cancelled the xsfer midway in the process.

You mention not moving any folders generated by programs - yet I have moved all User folders in past and never had a problem.

What folders are you referring to when I move the User folder?

I still can't understand why a Recovery from a clean image would do what id did with regard to the App data folder- which was the whole problem.

There are always program or system generated folders in e.g. Documents (see mine in the picture). Many times the programs regenerate those folders if they cannot find them. That's why you did not have any trouble. But if you check you may see that you have some of those folders twice (not neccessarily the same though) - the moved ones and the new ones. I also have a couple in Videos.

Btw: I still do not understand why your imaging program would propagate a mistake that was made 3 days after the image that you restored was taken.

I found out what the problem was - I had the same problem today and realized it was from Mezzmo Media Server putting 45gbs onto C drive (after reinstalling).
All other Media Servers (PS3 for example don't do that) so I was quite surprised that this one did.

I reinstalled it and put the program on another hdd, and all is now ok.

That's a hefty price to pay for a media server.
