Backup will not complete in order to restore windows, please help

Good thought - another way to check is actually to attempt validation, and if it fails, go to the Diagnostics page, where it will often find that problem.

CheckSUR failing that early may indicate a problem with either the download or the system.

Please check your system for malware -

1) is your Anti-Virus up-to-date and switched on? Update it manually, and run a full system scan (which AV is it?)
2) Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) www.malwarebytes.org and update it, and run a full scan (DO NOT enable the Real-Time protection option!) in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.
Delete everything it finds

Reboot and test Windows Updates again

I have McAffee and it is up to date. Although everytime i attempt to run a full scan it says that an error has occured and it cannot complete. Also that real time scanning is turned off, and everytime i turn it on it automatically turns it back off. I do have malwarebytes and have run a complete scan and it came up with nothing.

Just a though. Because the problem is downloading and not installing. Please check your bios and Windows time. If their not correct it will not download.

How do i do this? Sorry for the late reply I have been working the past two days and havent had time to look at it.

I think you enter the BIOS on a Dell by holding down the F2 key during boot. The time should be shown when the BIOS loads.

McAfee is often found to be problematic on these forums. Have you tried to disable it and then install updates? Or maybe even get rid of McAfee entirely?

option two didnt work. It just ran the command prompt for a second and then it would close out automatically. I tried the fixing tool and then tried to run the updates again and it failed

You almost certainly have a rootkit infection.
McAfee is abolutely no use to you if it can't stay running, and can't scan.
I would suggest your best way forward is a reformat/reinstall after backing up your data.
Once you have the OS reinstalled, install and update a decent Anti-Virus, and scan your date before bringing it back onto the system.

ok...so, now how do i do all of this? i tried running my back up onto a 4g flash drive but it failed a few times. There were no error messages or anything, it just quit. I know i can try it with a DVD-R. But once i get my back up completed successfully (if i can), how do i reinstall the OS? Because i dont want to start this and then find myself screwed in the middle of it because i hit a wall that i dont have the knowlege to pass. I do not know alot about this kind of stuff but i am a very quick learner

You really need to start from scratch if you've got a serious rootkit. Can you read the version of w7 and the associated key on the COA sticker affixed to the exterior of the machine (or maybe under the battery it it's a laptop)?

If you don't have restore media (I might not trust the restore partitions it may have now that you suspect you've been rootkitted) you could start by checking out the following tutorial by gregrocker:

It also mentions how to get your data off of the machine first, so it might be best to quit trying to get that backup app to run properly and start looking at other methods to backup/copy out.

You have to decide if you want to do a clean reinstall of Windows or do a restore to factory conditions. They aren't the same thing.

I reinstalled windows to factory conditions and installed bitdefender antivirus

Did you first uninstall the manufacturer's supplied trial anti-virus (if any)? Did you then run the AV maker's cleanup utility?
If not, you need to do so.

Yes mcaffee is gone and bitdefender is installed and running. What is the AV? Also, everything seems to be working properly and it is updating alot and a all are applying correctly except for "Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64 based systems". Idk

SP1 won't install until all other relevant updates are already installed.
Only worry about it if it becomes the sole remaining update and still doesn't install.
You need to run the McAfee MCPR tool to get rid of the remaining bits that the uninstaller didn't touch....

1. Download the removal tool from:

2. Click Save, and save the file to a folder on your computer.
3. Navigate to the folder where you saved the file.
4. right-click on MCPR.exe and select 'Run as Administrator' to run the removal tool.

Well my computer is running fine but SP1 is now the sole remaining update and it wont install. what do i do next?

Is it selected for install? If so, instead of installing it from the Windows Update screen, close all apps and try installing it during a restart/shutdown.
