Battery Backup decreases from 4 hour to half an hour

After having bad sector problem in hdd, my battery backup is deceases. My lappy is just only 1 year old from toshiba.
Also an 'x' sign blink on my battery at taskbar showing consider for battery replacing.
but i don't think so that my battery is dying.
Please fix it.
I'm thankful for that.

It sure sounds like your battery is dying. Is the laptop still under warranty?

If you remove the battery, will it run on just the power supply without problems?

Poorly conditioned batteries dont last very long.
The worst thing you can do for a laptop is leave it plugged in all the time. A laptops battery isnt a "backup" it should be its MAIN power source.

You should always run your laptop off the battery unless its charging, once its charged unplug it and use the battery as intended. If you dont it will create charge cycles over and over and over again, and before you know it youve hit your 1000ish cycle and the things now a dud!!

my macs 4 years old and i still get about 6 hours from it because i do as i say above!

Possible. Not common. The most likely reason would be a problem with the battery or the charger. I can't think of anything in a laptop that could drain a good battery at 8 times the normal rate.

I can't think of a connection between those two things. Even if a bad sector somehow caused the hard drive to run at run full speed constantly it would not explain a power drain like that.
